Men’s Lacrosse Continues Trend of Academic Excellence With High Marks in Fall Semester

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Continuing its trend of academic excellence, Harvard men's lacrosse put together yet another outstanding effort in the classroom during the Fall semester, posting a 3.730 term GPA. The Crimson, the winners of the IMCLA Team GPA award in each of the past two seasons, prolonged its trend of academic success and looks to carry the effort onto the field with them as it prepares to take the field for the highly anticipated 2024 Spring season.

The Frisbie Family Head Coach for Harvard Men's Lacrosse, Gerry Byrne, is thrilled with his team's effort, pursuit of excellence and dedication in its academic endeavors.

"Our team performance in the classroom is further proof of their embracing of all that Harvard has to offer," said Byrne. "They understand that they did not get here alone and one of the ways they show respect to their parents, high school coaches and teachers is by giving their all in the classroom. Just as we expect them to shine on the field, we also know that preparing for life after Harvard requires that same diligent effort and commitment."

The Harvard men's lacrosse program has placed an emphasis on commitment to academics since Byrne's arrival in 2019 and has turned that commitment into a long list of academic achievements.

The program has won the IMCLA Team GPA Award in each of the past two season (2022 and 2023) signifying the team achieved the highest team GPA of any DI program. Additionally, the Crimson has been represented by 11 USILA Scholar All-Americans since the 2020 season. Most recently, Kyle Mullin '22 and Chase Yager'23 took home the honors after outstanding performances on the field and in the classroom during their senior seasons in Cambridge.

The Crimson was also well represented on the NEILA Scholar-Athlete list in 2023, as 13 of its senior athletes earned the distinctions. The total was the most amongst DI programs in the region.

Charlie Olmert '22 was especially brilliant in his career at Harvard, earning a spot on the Senior CLASS First-Team All-America while also moving on to become a finalist for the highly touted Rhodes Scholarship in 2022.

The Crimson will look to carry their efforts in the classroom into the Spring semester when it will begin its pursuit of an Ivy League title and a trip to the NCAA Tournament. Harvard men's lacrosse will kick off the 2024 campaign on Feb. 17 when it hosts the Providence Friars at Jordan Field. `
