HOPKINTON, N.H. – Both Harvard cross country teams produced impressive results at the 2024 NCAA Northeast Regionals, as the men's and women's teams earned top-five finishes at the Hopkinton Fairgrounds.
For a fifth straight season, the men automatically qualify for the NCAA Championships, as the Crimson punch their ticket to Madison, Wisconsin with a second place finish at regionals. The women's team await for an at-large selection during tomorrow's selection show after finishing in fourth in Hopkinton.
In the women's 6k race, junior
Molly Malague led all Crimson runners, garnering All-Region honors after crossing the finish line in 14
th place with a time of 20:16.87. Along with Malague, junior
Penelope Salmon and senior
Ella Gilson also picked up All-Region status. Salmon posted a time of 20:20.08 to finish in 16
th place, while Gilson recorded a 24
th place showing, finishing the race in 20:31.08.
After winning his second Ivy League Heptagonal title earlier this month, senior
Graham Blanks did it again up north, as the defending NCAA Men's Cross Country National Champion finished in first place at the NCAA Northeast Regionals, winning the men's 10k race with a time of 29:34.65. Along with Blanks, two more Crimson picked up All-Region status. Junior
Shane Brosnan and sophomore
Sam Burgess both garnered All-Region recognition for the first times in their careers, finishing in 10
th and 15
th, respectively.
HARVARD HIGHLIGHTS:
- The women's team finished in fourth at the NCAA Northeast Regionals, collecting 144 points.
- Malague, Salmon, and Gilson all earned All-Region honors with top-25 finishes, also contributing points to the Crimson's team tally.
- Senior team captain Annelies Quinton finished in 30th place, posting a time of 20:45.14.
- Along with Quinton, sophomore Sophia Gorriaran and senior Zoe Cooper scored for Harvard. Gorriaran finished in 60th with a time of 21:14.95, while Cooper took 69th place with a time of 21:26.54.
- Senior Ellaney Matarese rounded out the scoring for Harvard, finishing in 89th with a time of 21:37.05.
- On the men's side, the Crimson secured their spot at the NCAA Championships, taking second place with 97 points.
- Blanks finished in first place at the NCAA Northeast Regionals for a second straight season, winning the race with a time of 29:34.65.
- Brosnan took 10th place with a time of 30:12.20, while Burgess finished in 15th with a time of 30:18.51.
- Seniors Joe Ewing and Ben Rosa also recorded top-50 performances at regionals. A native of Edinburgh, Scotland, Ewing finished in 35th with a time of 30:51.00, while Rosa crossed the finish line right behind his teammate, taking 36th with a time of 30:51.96.
- Two Crimson rounded out the scoring in Hopkinton with a pair of top-100 finishes. Senior Noah Ward finished the 10k race in 31:08.62 for a 50th place finish, while first-year William Brunner recorded a 76th place showing and a time of 31:30.80 in his regionals debut.
