MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Harvard Men's Swimming and Diving put the finishing touches on the four-day Minnesota Invitational on Saturday. The Crimson had two athletes record NCAA B-standard performances in the team's final competition day of the calendar year.
Harvard finished in second place in the team standings with 1,209 points and trailed only No. 5 California and its 2,096 points. No. 18 Minnesota (1,164), Denver (778.50) and UNLV (773.50) rounded out the rest of the table.
How It Happened in the Prelims
- Anthony Rincon opened the day with an NCAA B-standard time of 1:41.76 in the prelims of the 200 back. The senior's time was second only to Keaton Jones of California (1:41.54). Adriano Arioti, meanwhile, finished in 10th place (1:44.62) to secure a spot in the B-final.
- Harvard had two athletes make the A-final of the 100 free in Sonny Wang and David Greeley. The duo finished with identical 43.64s. The Crimson also had three make the B-final in Evan Croley (44.43), Tristan Dalbey (44.57) and Marre Gattnar (44.61). Harris Durham (44.81) and Oliver Pilkinton (44.85) earned spots in the C-final.
- Joshua Chen (1:58.56), Dylan Rhee (1:59.57) and Zach Bartel (2:00.21) finished in 10th, 12th and 15th place, respectively, to move on to the B-final of the 200 breast. Quinn Harron just missed out on making the B-final and instead advanced to the C-final after finishing in 2:00.33.
- David Schmitt posted an NCAA B-standard time in the 200 fly, completing the event in 1:44.06, which was good for third place and a spot in the A-final. Harvard had three athletes make the B-final (Richard Poplawski III – 1:48.47, Adriano Arioti – 1:48.68, Mert Iravul – 1:48.75) and one advance to the C-final (Jonathan Novinski – 1:51.68).
How It Happened in the Finals
- Shane Washart was Harvard's top performer in the 1,650 free, finishing the race in fifth place with a time of 15:27.96. Filip Lanyi (15:47.69) and Felipe Baffico (15:52.84) finished within five seconds of each other to finish in 11th and 13th, respectively. Dalbey, meanwhile, completed the event in 15:58.42 to finish in 15th place.
- Rincon finished in third place in the A-final of the 200 back, registering a season-best 1:41.37, which was an NCAA B-standard effort. Arioti, similar to Rincon, finished in third, but in the B-final, after completing the race in 1:44.46 (season best).
- Wang (43.64) and Greeley (43.70) came in sixth and eighth, respectively, in the A-final of the 100 free. The Crimson's three B-final swimmers came in second (Gattnar – season-best 43.89), fifth (Croley – 44.55), and eighth (Dalbey – 44.82). Pilkinton (44.34) and Durham (44.54) finished 1-2 in the C-final after season-best performances.
- Rhee was the Crimson's top performer in the 200 breast, finishing the B-final in a season-best 1:58.90 (2nd place). Chen (1:59.06) and Harron (2:01.90) also swam in the B-final and came in fourth and eighth, respectively.
- Schmitt posted his second NCAA B-time of the day, finishing the A-final of the 200 fly in a season-best 1:43.72. In the B-final, Arioti finished in second (season-best 1:47.08), Iravul in fourth (season-best 1:47.60), and Poplawski in sixth (1:49.43). Novinski, meanwhile, came in third in the C-final with a season-best time of 1:51.67.
