CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard track & field begins a pivotal month with a return to Gordon Indoor Track, hosting the Crimson Elite on Friday, Feb. 2. The next day, the Crimson travel to Boston University for the Bruce Lehane Scarlet & White Invite.
This year's iteration of the Crimson Elite promises to be the most competitive and exciting version of the competition yet, as premier talent from 22 programs will compete at Gordon Indoor Track on Friday.
WHAT TO KNOW:
- Harvard student-athletes were split between two meets last weekend, earning key results at the Riverhawk Invitational and the John Thomas Terrier Classic.
- In just his fourth collegiate meet, first-year Tito Alofe broke the school's high jump record for a second time this season, clearing the bar at 2.22m (7'3.25") at the Riverhawk Invitational.
- A native of Peachtree, Ga., Alofe is now tied for third in the nation in the men's high jump.
- In his Harvard indoor track debut, first-year Ferenc Kovacs earned first place in the 1,000m run at the John Thomas Terrier Classic.
- Kovacs crossed the finish line in 2:21.38, a time that ranks second in program history.
- Junior Joe Ewing also ran the 1,000m, earning fourth place with a time of 2:22.75. That result ranks third in Harvard history.
- In the women's pole vault, first-year Lilly Hodge garnered second place honors at the Riverhawk Invite. Her best mark of 4.10m is in third place in the Harvard record book.
- The 500m at the John Thomas Terrier Classic saw first-year Sophia Gorriaran post the top collegiate time in the event, finishing the race in second place overall with a time of 1:11.99.
- The Crimson welcome programs from across the country on Friday for the Crimson Elite meet.
- Participating schools include Northeastern, Maine, Yale, George Mason, MIT, Cornell, Vanderbilt, UMass Lowell, UConn, Tulane, Syracuse, Louisiana, Dartmouth, UCF, Boston College, Howard, Boston University, Columbia, Brown, UAlbany, and Northwestern State.
- Track events begin at 3:30 p.m. with the women's mile, as field events begin at 10:30 with the pentathlon.

Harvard track & field student-athletes are again split between two meets next weekend, competing at Boston University's Valentine Invitational and the Eagles Elite Invitational at the TRACK at new balance on Friday, Feb. 9 and Saturday, Feb. 10.
