PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Harvard Women's Swimming and Diving sophomore
Nina Janmyr emerged victorious in the one-meter diving competition and the 200-free relay broke the school record on Day 2 of the Ivy League Championships.
Janmyr secured the title on her final attempt, boosting her to the top of the leaderboard with 289.30 points. Harvard, in fact, finished 1-2-4 in the final standings with
Remi Edvalson finishing as the runner-up (282.20) and
Amy Wotovich coming in fourth (277.10).
The Crimson 200-free relay, meanwhile, vaulted to the top of the program's all-time leaderboard with its time of 1:29.45. The quartet of
Anya Mostek,
Blythe Wieclawek,
Sydney Lu and
Addie Rose Bullock established a new Harvard standard, nudging ahead of the 2020 performance of Mei Lynn Colby, Kennidy Quist,
Darlene Fung and Miki Dahlke (1:29.80).
Harvard enters Day 3 of the league championships in second place with 422.5 points, trailing Princeton (523). Yale sits in third place (417.5), with Brown, which entered the day in a second-place tie with the Crimson, in fourth (342.5). Penn (302), Columbia (261), Cornell (224.5) and Dartmouth (197) round out the team standings.
Prelims Notes
- First-years Alexandra Bastone and Piper Wood Prince secured spots in the 500 free finals, with the former qualifying for the A-final and the latter earning a spot in the B-final. Bastone finished with the fifth-best time in the field (4:46.68), while Wood Prince completed the race in 4:50.51.
- Another first-year, Stephanie Iannaccone, punched her ticket to the night session after finishing with the fifth-fastest time (1:59.61) in the 200 individual medley. The Concord, California, native recorded a personal record, which propelled her from eighth in the Harvard record book to sixth. Junior Aleksandra Denisenko, meanwhile, finished in 10th overall (season-best 2:01.66) to snatch a spot in the B-final.
- In the 50 free, the Crimson had a pair of swimmers shake up the program record book. Mostek posted a time of 22.69 to reach the A-final, but before appearing in the night session, she improved upon her fourth-best time in school history. Mostek entered at No. 4 with her 22.70 showing at the Minnesota Invitational and moving closer to third place (Miki Dahlke – 22.58). Wieclawek, a first-year, meanwhile, entered the Harvard record book with her A-final-securing time of 22.84. Her performance was the seventh-best in program history.
- Mandy Brenner just missed making the A-final of the 50 free after finishing in 23.06 (season best). The junior posted the ninth-best time in the field, while first-years Kristín Helga Hákonardóttir (season-best 23.43) and Isabella Alas (23.51) locked up lanes in the C-final.
Finals Notes
- Bastone put forth an impressive showing the in the A-final of the 500 free, which kicked off the night session. The first-year completed the event in 4:42.86 (NCAA B-standard), finishing in third place and posting the third-best time in Harvard history.
- Wood Prince, competing in the B-final of the 500 free, finished fifth in the heat and 13th overall. The first-year posted a time of 4:51.35.
- Iannaccone recorded a seventh-place finish in the A-final of the 200 IM, turning in a time of 2:01.05. Denisenko, meanwhile, came in fourth place in the B-final (13th overall) after touching the pad in a season-best 2:01.22.
- Mostek and Wieclawek both swam in the A-final of the 50 free and finished in fifth and eighth place, respectively. Mostek, who earlier in the day established a personal record, replicated the performance, posting a time of 22.68. The effort improved her No. 4 time in school history. Wieclawek notched a time of 23.47.
- Brenner finished the B-final of the 50 free in seventh place (15th overall) with a time of 23.31. Hákonardóttir, meanwhile, wiped away her season best from earlier in the day, completing the C-final in 23.37. Alas rounded out the Crimson contingent in 22nd place overall (23.60).
