Scott ’22 Meets with Current Student-Athletes in CMO Program

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Harvard Athletics welcomed back Buddy Scott '22, currently Manager of Salary Cap and Basketball Strategy for the Boston Celtics, to meet with current student-athletes participating in the Chief Marketing Officers (CMO) Program.

A former captain of the men's volleyball team, Scott served as CMO for his team for two years. Scott provided valuable career advice and insight into working in the professional sports industry:

"I am thankful for the opportunity to come back to campus and speak to the CMOs of various Harvard Athletic teams," he said. "As a former CMO myself not too long ago, I hope my story getting from Harvard to the Celtics resonated with student-athletes thinking about their post-playing careers, especially those interested in pursuing a job in the sports industry."

When Chloe Williams, CMO of the Harvard Rugby team was asked what this opportunity meant to her she replied, "It was really inspiring to hear from Buddy who was in our shoes just a couple of years ago, now thriving and pursuing his dream. He showed us the value of the work we do as CMOs and the opportunities that lie ahead."

The Harvard Athletics CMO initiative is a comprehensive program providing leadership opportunities for student-athletes across all sports. In partnership with the Harvard Athletics Marketing Department, student-athlete CMOs provide marketing and promotional support to drive awareness and engagement for their teams. Since the CMO Initiative started seven years ago, hundreds of student-athletes have participated in this unique opportunity combining education through athletics and building community and pride in Harvard.
