STILLWATER, Okla. –
Cooper Williams of No. 12 Harvard men's tennis historic rookie season came to a conclusion at the 2024 NCAA Individual Championships as the first-year fell to No. 29 Filip Planinsek (Alabama).
Planinsek pulled ahead to open the match, jumping out to a 4-1 lead in the early games. Williams staged another comeback, tying the match at four-all. Despite the shifting momentum, Planinsek was able to hold on gain the advantage in the match with a 6-4 opening set.
Williams bounced back in the second set, putting up a dominant 6-1 decision to even the match and force a third set. While play remained relatively even throughout the third, Planinsek was able to close out the match with another 6-4 result.
Throughout the week in Stillwater, Okla. Williams continued to prove his place as one of the top players in the nation while becoming just the fourth Harvard player to reach the quarterfinals of the NCAA singles draw and the first Crimson first-year since 1998 to earn All-America honors.
