CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard University baseball junior right-handed pitcher
Sean Matson has been selected by the Cleveland Guardians in the ninth round as the 265
th overall pick in the 2024 Major League Baseball Draft on Monday.
The Crimson features a selection in day two of the MLB Draft for the second straight year after Harvard tallied a pair of selections in the top-10 rounds in 2023 with right-hander
Chris Clark in the fifth round to the Los Angeles Angles and right-hander
Jay Driver in the ninth round to the Guardians.
Matson earned Second Team All-Ivy honors this past season, posting a 3.25 ERA and 77 strikeouts against 27 walks over 63.2 innings pitched. He led the Ivy League in opponent average (.226), while ranking second in ERA (3.25) and strikeouts (77). For his career, he tallied a 4.42 ERA with 185 strikeouts against 64 walks over 167.0 innings pitched for the Crimson. In the summer of 2023, Matson earned the Cape Cod Baseball League's Most Outstanding Relief Pitcher Award.
