PENROSE, New Zealand – An incredible year for recent Harvard graduate
Maia Ramsden will continue in Paris later this summer, as Athletics New Zealand added the three-time NCAA national champion to its 2024 Paris Olympics roster.
One of three finalists for The Bowerman, the highest individual honor in collegiate track & field, Ramsden will conclude a stellar season at the Stade de France this August. The New Zealand national record holder in the indoor and outdoor 1500m, Ramsden dominated the collegiate circuit in 2024. At the 2024 NCAA Indoor Championships, Ramsden won national title in the women's mile, breaking the meet record with a time of 4:25.13 in the process. In Eugene, Oregon, Ramsden concluded her Crimson career in style, winning her third and final NCAA national championship in the 1500m.
Ramsden also enjoyed success at several high-profile meets against professional competitors. At the 116
th Millrose Games, Ramsden posted a time of 4:24.83 in the Wannamaker Mile, breaking her own Ivy League record for a top-10 finish. Making her New Zealand debut at the World Indoor Championships in Glasgow, Scotland, Ramsden advanced to the 1500m final with a record-breaking performance, toppling the national record in the event with a time of 4:06.51. Ramsden continued to rewrite the New Zealand national record book at the USATF LA Grand Prix in May, breaking the national record in the outdoor 1500m with a time of 4:02.58.
Track & field action at the 2024 Paris Olympics begins on Thursday, Aug. 1 and ends on Sunday, Aug. 11. The first round of the women's 1500m takes place on Tuesday, Aug. 6, while the semifinal is set for Thursday, Aug. 8. The women's 1500m final will run on Saturday, Aug. 10. All the action will air live on NBC and Peacock.
