Men's Ice Hockey

Major Renovation Project Completed at Bright-Landry Hockey Center

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Bright-Landry Hockey Center, home to the Harvard Crimson men's and women's ice hockey programs, recently underwent an extensive renovation project to improve the fan experience and modernize rink infrastructure. Upgrades include a brand-new state-of-the-art multi-color LED lighting system, a four-sided center-hung HD video board and ribbon boards on each end of the rink.

"Along with storied history and tradition, continuous modernization and improvement make watching a game in Bright-Landry among the best experiences in college hockey," said Erin McDermott, The John D. Nichols '53 Family Director of Athletics. "These latest enhancements help us achieve the excellence we strive for in the experience of our teams and fans."

Manufactured by Daktronics, the new video display consists of four curved LED displays, measuring 11.5-ft by 16.5-ft. In order to provide a great experience for all spectators, the panels will be assembled so that content is displayed in a continuous effect. In addition, two new ribbon displays were installed along the walls behind each goal. Displaying real-time statistics and providing intermission updates, both the ribbons and videoboard will revolutionize the fan experience at Bright-Landry.

New LED lighting technology by Musco Lighting was also installed to further enhance the gameday experience.  The new state-of-the-art lights include the ability to change colors and time up light displays with music to provide exciting visual elements throughout the games' biggest moments. The same lighting system that is used at TD Garden and many NFL stadiums, these improvements will have a major impact throughout all 26 Crimson hockey home games this season.

"We are so excited to see all the improvements and upgrades to the Bright-Landry Hockey Center," said Laura Bellamy, the Landry Family Head Coach for Harvard Women's Ice Hockey. "The new video boards and lights represent a significant improvement in our ability to provide our fans with a top-notch gameday experience. The newest in a series of changes made to our rink over the past 10 years, this investment emphasizes Harvard's commitment to excellence in athletics and will undoubtedly elevate the fan experience for all Crimson hockey fans."

Bright-Landry Hockey Center has been home to the Harvard Crimson Ice Hockey programs since 1979 and has seen a number of renovations over the years. The last major project was conducted in the summer of 2014, when a 20,000-square-foot addition was built to connect the rink with the neighboring Albert H. Gordon Track. The project also included the addition of upgraded locker room spaces, an athletic training room along with workout facilities, coaching staff offices, and a facility operations center. No stranger to innovation, in 2008, the Bright-Landry Hockey Center became the first arena in ECAC Hockey to feature a video scoreboard.

"We are very excited about the renovations, upgrades, and additions to Bright-Landry as they should allow for a revolutionized experience for both our student-athletes and our great fanbase." Ted Donato, The Robert D. Ziff '88 Head Coach for Harvard Men's Hockey added. "The additions over the last 10 years have completely reinvented Bright-Landry, and not only highlight the incredible history of our programs, but also have ensured that Bright-Landry is one of the most iconic facilities in college hockey. The new videoboard and lighting systems are exciting upgrades to our rink and we are so excited to welcome fans back to Bright-Landry in the coming weeks."

Harvard Hockey is excited to unveil these new upgrades to its fans during the upcoming 2024-25 seasons. The men's program will be first to hit the ice at Bright-Landry on Friday, Oct. 18, when the team begins its season with an exhibition contest against the United States National Team Development Program (U.S. NTDP) at 7:00 p.m. The women's squad opens its regular season on Saturday, Oct. 19, when it hosts Connecticut at 6:00 p.m.
