Sailing to Compete at Three Regattas This Week

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard Sailing is set to compete at three events this week, with the Intercollegiate Offshore Regatta, Women's Atlantic Coast Championship – Final and Captain Hurst Bowl all slated for Saturday-Sunday.

Intercollegiate Offshore Regatta | Larchmont, N.Y.

Saturday will be in the upper 60s with clouds coming and going, and the wind blowing out of the east and east-southeast between 5-7 knots. Sunday looks to be challenging with showers expected (50-60 percent chance) and winds howling between 13-15 knots (NE).

Women's Atlantic Coast Championship – Final | Cambridge, Mass.

Saturday on the Charles River will feature temperatures in the mid-60s and partly cloudy skies. The wind is expected to come out of the southwest at five knots before shifting to the south at six knots by day's end. There is a 30 percent chance of showers on Sunday, with temps hovering around 60 degrees. The wind will come out of the east-northeast at around 13 knots.

Captain Hurst Bowl | Hanover, N.H.

Temps will be in the 60s and sunglasses will be required on Saturday. The wind, however, will be close to non-existent and will struggle to get to three knots. Mostly cloudy skies and 60-degree weather will welcome sailors on Sunday. The wind will blow between 4-7 knots and originate out of the east.

What to Know

  • Harvard sailed at three regattas last weekend and for the fourth time in five fall weekends, emerged with a victory. The Crimson won the Stu Nelson Trophy in New London, Connecticut, while finishing in second place at the Open Atlantic Coast Championship – Round 1 (New London) and 12th at the Sister Ester Trophy (Newport, R.I.).
  • Through five weekends of action, the Crimson has won the Harman Cup, Hatch Brown Trophy, NEISA Match Racing Championships and the aforementioned Stu Nelson Trophy. Robby Meek also won the NEISA Open Singlehanded Championship in mid-September.
  • Harvard will head to The Empire State for the Intercollegiate Offshore Regatta in Larchmont. The Crimson is one of 49 teams scheduled to be at the two-day event that was established in the early 1970s by The Corinthians. Harvard's appearance at IOR will be its first in program history.
  • The Crimson will compete on the Charles River at the Women's ACC – Final after earning a spot two weeks ago in Round 1 at Annapolis, Maryland. Zoey Ziskind and Peyton Hadfield sailed in the A-division (72), while Kate Danielson teamed with Sophia Montgomery and Katherine Shin in the B-division (75). As a group, they finished with a score of 147 on the Severn River.
  • A year ago, Harvard posted an 11th-place effort at the Women's ACC – Final (Annapolis). Ziskind was the skipper for the Crimson's B-entry, with Christina Chen and Peyton Hadfield serving as crew. Montgomery, meanwhile, was one of two crew members in the A-division.
  • Harvard is headed to the Captain Hurst Bowl for the first time since 2023, when Boston College played host to the event. The Crimson won the bowl that season with Justin Callahan and Mitchell Callahan skippering the A- and B-boat, respectively. Aidan Pesce served as crew for four races with Justin Callahan.
