Men’s Water Polo Continues Conference Play Against Brown and MIT

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – No. 17 Harvard men's water polo continues NWPC conference play this weekend, facing Brown and MIT. 

The Crimson will begin the weekend in Providence, R.I., taking on Brown on Saturday, Oct. 11, before returning to Blodgett Pool for the first time since late August to host MIT on Sunday, Oct. 12. Saturday's game at Brown is set for 6 p.m. ET, while Sunday's home match is scheduled for 12 p.m. ET. Both games will be streamed on ESPN+. 

Vilas Sogaard-Srikrishnan and Connor Kim enter the weekend as the reigning NWPC Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week, respectively, after helping the Crimson climb back into the national polls for just the second time this season. Harvard has not been ranked since Week 1, when it was No. 16.

WEEKEND MATCHUPS
  • This marks the 137th all-time meeting between Harvard and Brown. The Crimson trail 41–95 in the series but recently had an eight-game winning streak spanning from 2022–24.
  • Last season, the teams split the series, with Harvard edging Brown 17–16 in November before falling 11–9 in the NWPC Championships.
  • Harvard leads the all-time series against MIT 103–21, with this weekend marking the 125th meeting in program history.
  • The Crimson currently holds a 27-game win streak over MIT dating back to 2012. Last season, Harvard swept the Engineers with a 21–9 victory in October and a 17–16 win in November.
HISTORY MADE
  • This past weekend, Head Coach Ted Minnis picked up career victory No. 300 against Iona, becoming the first coach in program history to reach the milestone. He added wins No. 301 and 302 as the Crimson swept the opening weekend of NWPC play.
  • Minnis has led Harvard to a 3–0 start in conference play and continues to add to his historic resume this season.
WEEKEND SWEEP
  • Harvard dominated in the opening weekend of NWPC conference play, going 3–0.
  • The victory over Iona not only marked a historic milestone for Coach Minnis but also extended the Crimson's winning streak over Iona to 24 straight and marked the second 20-plus goal performance of the season.
  • In the 21–11 victory, Jack Burghardt, Dean Strauser, and Lukas Peabody powered the offense, combining for 13 goals.
  • Tanner Furtak and Oliver Price split time in net, with Furtak recording seven saves and Price stopping three.
  • Harvard pulled away late in the evening contest, defeating LIU 20–13 after a six-goal fourth quarter. Connor Kim and Tyler Hogan each scored twice, while Burghardt netted a hat trick.
  • The Crimson capped the weekend with its biggest win of the season, defeating No. 12 Princeton 13–12.
  • The victory marked Harvard's first ranked win of the season and clinched at least a regular-season split with Ivy rival Princeton, extending its streak of avoiding a regular-season sweep to 12 consecutive years.
  • Furtak anchored the defense, making nine key saves to preserve the one-goal advantage.
  • Vilas Sogaard-Srikrishnan recorded a season-best six points (three goals, three assists), while Kim contributed four points on a hat trick and one assist.
  • Burghardt, Strauser, and Peabody continued their strong offensive play, combining for 11 points in the win.
NEXT UP
Harvard will remain at home next weekend as it hosts the annual Harvard Invitational, running from Saturday, Oct. 18, and Sunday, Oct. 19. The Crimson will face Wagner College (9 a.m. ET) and Salem University (6 p.m. ET) on Saturday before taking on George Washington University (10 a.m.) on Sunday.
