No. 3 Field Hockey, No. 19 Brown Meet in 2025 Ivy League Tournament Semifinals

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – After wrapping a historic and remarkable 2025 regular season, No. 3 Harvard field hockey is now turning the page to the postseason, as the Crimson host the highly anticipated 2025 Ivy League Tournament at Berylson Field this weekend.

The Crimson begin the action on Friday, Nov. 7 at 11:30 a.m., as Harvard takes on No. 19 Brown in the semifinal round of the Ivy League Tournament. Harvard fans can purchase tickets at this link and all the action will air live on ESPN+.

CRIMSON UPDATES:
  • Harvard enters postseason play with a 16-0 record, as the Crimson completed the first perfect regular season in Ivy League history. Harvard is the lone undefeated team remaining in the nation, as the Crimson's 16 game winning streak is the longest active winning streak in the NCAA.
  • For the first time since 2023, Harvard will host the Ivy League Tournament, as the Crimson secured the eighth Ivy League regular season title in school history with a 2-0 win against Columbia.
  • The regular season ended for the Crimson the same way it started, with a one-goal win on the road. Facing No. 16 Yale, junior forward Sage Piekarski scored twice, as the Crimson's vaunted defense only allowed five shots in a 2-1 win against the Bulldogs.
  • Piekarski, the Ivy League's Co-Offensive Player of the Year, earned Ivy League Offensive Player of the Week honors for the third time this season after netting the brace against Yale.
  • For a second straight week, Harvard is at No. 3 in the Penn Monto/National Field Hockey Coaches Association's National Coaches Poll, the highest ranking in program history. Harvard has spent eight consecutive weeks in the top-five of the Penn Monto/NFHCA National Coaches Poll, the longest streak in school history.
  • In the latest NCAA Ratings Percentage Index release, Harvard at No. 2, as the Crimson is joined by Ivy League peers Princeton (No. 3), Yale (No. 10), Penn (No. 14) and Brown (No. 15) in the top 20.
  • With a win against Brown, Harvard will match the program record for wins in a single season set by the 2018 and 2021 teams.
  • Harvard's team captains for the 2025 season are senior midfielders Kitty Chapple and Fiene Oerlemans.
  • Head coach Tjerk van Herwaarden is in his 13th season at the helm of the Harvard field hockey program. A four-time Ivy League Coach of the Year and the leader of the 2025 Ivy League Coaching Staff of the Year, van Herwaarden owns a 163-67 record in his Crimson tenure, as he earned his 150th career win in the 2-1 overtime triumph against No. 12 Ohio State.
SCOUTING THE BEARS:
  • Brown heads to Cambridge with a 10-5 record, as the Bears went 4-3 in Ivy League action over the course of the regular season.
  • On the road in Hanover, New Hampshire, the Bears clinched its spot in the 2025 Ivy League Tournament with a 3-2 overtime win against Dartmouth. Sophomore midfielder Mia Karine Myklebust netted the game-winning goal in extra time.
  • Entering postseason action, Brown is second in the Ivy League in goals scored with 48, as the Bears are fourth in goals allowed per game with a mark of 1.40.
SERIES HISTORY:
  • Harvard and Brown will face off for the second time this season, as the Crimson lead the all-time series, 32-13-6. The Crimson own a 11-game winning streak against Brown that spans back to the 2014 season.
  • In the regular season meeting between the two, Harvard cruised to a 3-1 victory against Brown. The Crimson's incredible attacking trio of junior forward Sage Piekarski, junior midfielder Lara Beekhuis and sophomore midfielder/forward Martha le Huray all scored goals as Harvard only allowed five shots and a single penalty corner.
  • This marks the second time that Harvard and Brown will meet in the Ivy League Semifinals, as the Crimson defeated the Bears in overtime, 1-0, thanks to a goal from senior defender Bronte-May Brough.
IVY LEAGUE TOURNAMENT LEDGER:
  • The 2025 Ivy League Tournament is the third iteration of the competition, as Harvard has qualified for all three and will host the Ivy League Tournament for the second time.
  • The Crimson is the two-time defending Ivy League Tournament champions, defeating Princeton in the championship round in both 2023 and 2024.
  • Harvard is a perfect 4-0 in the Ivy League Tournament, with two of those wins arriving in overtime.
  • Beekhuis was the Most Outstanding Player at the 2023 Ivy League Tournament after scoring all three of Harvard's goals at the tournament, as le Huray took Most Outstanding Player honors at the 2024 Ivy League Tournament after scoring the game-winning goal against Princeton in overtime in the championship round.
REWRITING THE RECORD BOOK:
  • Over the course of the 2025 regular season, Harvard reached several milestones and rewrote several program records.
  • Harvard orchestrated a perfect 16-0 record, marking the first perfect regular season in Ivy League history. It is only the second undefeated season in the history of the Ancient Eight, as the 1974 Princeton Tigers went 9-0-2.
  • The Crimson is currently maintaining a 16-match winning streak, the longest winning streak in program history.
  • Harvard has also recorded new program bests for wins on the road in a season (11) and win against ranked teams in a season (7).
YOU SHALL NOT PASS:
  • Led by Chapple, Brough and defenders Marie Schaefers, Smilla Klas, Brooke Chandler, Charlotte Casiraghi and Paige Cornelius, Harvard boasts one of the best defensive records in the country.
  • Nationally, Harvard ranks second in goals against average (0.61), second in goals allowed (10) and seventh in shutouts per game (0.44). Harvard leads the Ivy League in all three categories as well.
  • Harvard has only allowed multiple goals in the same game once this season, as the Crimson allowed multiple goals in the same game five times last year.
  • Outstanding defensive structure is a staple for the Crimson under the direction of van Herwaarden, as the Crimson led the nation in goals allowed in 2021 (9) and 2022 (18).
BURGER'S BIG YEAR:
  • First-year goalkeeper Linde Burger is making an immediate impact in her first season between the posts for the Crimson.
  • A native of Heerhugowaard, Netherlands, Burger leads the nation in goalie winning percentage (1.000), ranks second in goals against average (0.61), fourth in goals allowed (10) and is fifth in save percentage (0.792). Burger leads the Ivy League in all these categories as well.
  • Across the first 16 starts of her career, Burger owns seven shutouts, as the school record for shutouts by a keeper in a single season is 10 from Ellie Shahbo '23 in 2021.
  • Burger is the 2025 Ivy League Rookie of the Year, becoming the third Crimson to earn the honor in the last four seasons.
A CAREER TO REMEMBER:
  • One of the best defenders in the nation, Brough is orchestrating a remarkable collegiate career.
  • An All-Ivy League Defensive Player of the Week earlier this season, Brough owns 25 goals, 12 assists and 62 points across 69 career appearances in her Harvard tenure.
  • Brough is only the fourth student-athlete in school history to earn All-America status in three occasions. A native of Uttoxeter, England, Brough is looking to become only the second Crimson earn All-America honors four times, as Bente van Vlijmen '20 did so from 2016-19.
  • Brough is the 2025 Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year, becoming the first student-athlete in Ivy League history to earn the honor on multiple occasions.
RUNNING THE SHOW:
  • Chapple, one of the Crimson's team captains this season, is a vital component for Harvard on both the offensive and defensive ends in the midfield.
  • A native of Somerset, England, Chapple has started all 72 matches of her Crimson tenure, tallying eight goals, 17 assists, and 33 points in the process.
  • Chapple is now a four-time All-Ivy League honoree, earning All-Ivy League First Team status this season. Chapple garnered NFHCA Northeast All-Region First Team recognition in 2022 and 2023.
TOTAL TEAM EFFORT:
  • Harvard's attack, which leads the Ivy league in both goals scored (50) and goal differential (+40), is showcasing its talent and depth this season.
  • Eight different Crimson have scored multiple goals this season, as Piekarski leads the way with 12 goals and 27 points, as le Huray is second with 11 goals and 26 points. This marks the first time since 2018 that multiple Crimson have scored 10 or more goals in the same season.
  • le Huray, Beekhuis and Piekarski all have 20 or more points this season as well, as this is the first time since 2019 that three or more Crimson have tallied at least 20 points.
  • Piekarski is the Ivy League Co-Offensive Player of the Year alongside Princeton's senior midfielder Beth Yeager, as Piekarski is the first Crimson to receive the honor since 2019.
  • Nationally, Harvard ranks 12th in scoring average (3.03).
IRON SHARPENS IRON:
  • The Crimson is testing itself against some of the nation's top sides this season.
  • Harvard is 7-0 against ranked opponents this season, owning a +12-goal differential against ranked sides.
  • In the NCAA RPI, Harvard is 7-0 against teams inside the top 20.
UP NEXT:

If Harvard defeats Brown in the semifinal round, Harvard will advance to championship match of the 2025 Ivy League Tournament on Sunday, Nov. 9 at 12 p.m., facing the winner of the opposing semifinal round between No. 5 Princeton and No. 16 Yale.
