Baseball Meets Yale in Three-Game Series

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard University baseball will meet Yale University in a three-game series with a single game on Friday, Mar. 28 at 2:00 p.m. (ESPN+) at O'Donnell Field prior to a doubleheader on Saturday, Mar. 29 starting at 2:00 p.m. (ESPN+) at the Bulldogs' George H.W. Bush Field in New Haven, Connecticut.

What to Know

  • The Crimson (1-16, 0-3 Ivy) will host the Bulldogs (13-6, 1-2 Ivy) in its first game at O'Donnell Field on Friday before the two teams reconvene in New Haven for games two and three of the set on Saturday. Harvard will bat as the home team in all three contests. Officials updated the contests' times and locations due to expected weather conditions.
  • Harvard's weekend rotation is set to feature RHP Callan Fang (0-2, 2.63 ERA) in game one, RHP Truman Pauley (0-4, 6.29 ERA) in game two, and a to-be-determined pitcher in game three. Yale is set to counter with RHP Colton Shaw (2-1, 5.00 ERA) in game one, RHP Jack Ohman (2-0, 0.00 ERA) in game two, and RHP Daniel Cohen (1-2, 5.55 ERA) in game three.
  • Harvard leads Yale in the all-time series, 207-192-1. The two teams first met in 1868.
  • First-year Liam Wilson tallied a career-high six RBIs and a home run, senior George Cooper hit a game-tying two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh, and Harvard powered past Holy Cross, 14-13, on Mar. 25. The Crimson came back from deficits of 8-2 in the third, 12-8 in the fifth, and 13-10 in the seventh to upend the Crusaders.
  • Senior outfielder Matt Giberti has notched a team-best .304 batting average, 14 hits, eight runs, and a 7-for-8 effort in stolen bases. He ranks third in the Ivy League in stolen bases (seven).
  • Senior outfielder/infielder George Cooper has tallied a .302 average, 13 RBIs, 19 hits, three doubles, a triple, and three home runs on the year. He ranks ninth in the Ivy League in slugging (.524). Cooper posted a 3-for-4 effort with a two-run homer in the win over Holy Cross (Mar. 25). In the series opener against Northeastern (Mar. 14), he went 3-for-4 with a triple and a double.
  • Junior Gio Colasante has hit .467 in Ivy League play. In Ivy only games, he ranks third in the league in hits (seven), seventh in average (.467), eighth in total bases (12), and 10th in slugging (.800). He hit 7-for-15 (.467) in the Penn series (Mar. 22-23) with multi-hit games in all three contests.
  • Sophomore right-hander Truman Pauley has tallied 30 strikeouts over 24.1 innings pitched on the year. In the Ivy League, he ranks second in strikeouts (30), third in opponents' average (.216), and sixth in innings pitched (24.1). In Ivy only play, he sits third in the league in strikeouts (eight). He threw 6.2 innings with a career-high nine strikeouts, while allowing two runs at Northeastern (Mar. 15).
  • Junior right-handed pitcher Callan Fang has tallied a 2.63 ERA over 13.2 innings on the year. In Ivy only play, he ranks third in the league in innings pitched (7.0) and eighth in ERA (2.57). Fang won the 2024 Ivy League Pitcher of the Year award and the 2023 Ivy League Rookie of the Year award.
  • First-year Liam Wilson has contributed a .268 average with 11 hits, 10 RBIs, four doubles, and two home runs. He registered a career-high six RBIs, a home run, and a double in the win over Holy Cross (Mar. 25).
  • Sophomore Jack Rickheim has added a .255 average with 14 hits, five RBIs, six runs scored, and two doubles. He notched the go-ahead RBI in the bottom of the eighth in the 14-13 win over Holy Cross (Mar. 25).
  • Opening non-conference play, Harvard played eight of its first nine games against Power Four conference opponents with matchups against the Big Ten's Northwestern (Feb. 22), Indiana (Feb. 23), and Michigan State (Feb. 28 to Mar. 2) as well as the SEC's Florida (Mar. 7-8). The Crimson played at neutral or road sites for the first 16 games of its season (Feb. 21 to Mar. 23) before competing at home for the first time vs. Holy Cross on Mar. 25 in a game that was relocated to BC's Harrington Athletics Village.
  • Fenway Park will host this year's Baseball Beanpot on Tuesday, April 29. The college baseball doubleheader will feature teams from Boston College, Northeastern, Massachusetts, and Harvard. Fenway Park has hosted the tournament 24 times since it began in 1990, including most recently in 2019. Harvard has won five Beanpot titles all-time including in 1991, 1998 (co), 2005, 2014, and 2018.
  • Highlights from the Crimson's schedule include three trips to the South during non-league play, its first Ivy series at Penn (Mar. 22-23), its home opener vs. Holy Cross (Mar. 25), its first Ivy home series against Yale (Mar. 28-29), The Baseball Beanpot at Fenway Park (Apr. 29), the final series of the regular season at home vs. Columbia (May 3-4), and a hopeful berth in the four-team Ivy League Tournament (May 16-19).
