Baseball Opens Homestand with Three-Game Series vs. Princeton

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard University baseball will host Princeton University in a three-game Ivy League series with a doubleheader on Friday, Apr. 11 starting at 11:30 a.m. (ESPN+) and a single game on Sunday, Apr. 13 at 1:00 p.m. (ESPN+) at O'Donnell Field as the Crimson opens a seven-game homestand from Apr. 11-20.

What to Know

  • The Crimson (4-20, 2-7 Ivy) hosts the Tigers (7-23, 4-5 Ivy) in a series that was altered slightly from its original Saturday-Sunday format due to weather conditions. Harvard opens a seven-game homestand that includes two Ivy series alongside a mid-week, non-league game.
  • Harvard's weekend rotation is set to feature RHP Callan Fang (1-2, 4.39 ERA) in game one, RHP Truman Pauley (1-5, 7.11 ERA) in game two, and a to-be-determined pitcher in game three. Princeton will counter with RHP Andrew D'Alessio (2-4, 6.94 ERA) in game one, a to-be-determined pitcher in game two, and RHP Liam Kinneen (2-4, 6.75 ERA) in game three.
  • Harvard leads Princeton in the all-time series, 155-130-25 in a series that dates back to 1868. The Crimson took a 2-1 series win a season ago.
  • Junior Gio Colasante earned Ivy League Player of the Week honors on Apr. 7 after making major contributions at the plate (.625 average, 10-for-16, nine RBIs, two homers), on the mound (0.00 ERA, 5.0 innings), and in the field (1.000 fielding percentage on 24 chances) in the Crimson's contests against UMass (Apr. 1) and Dartmouth (Apr. 4-6).
  • Senior Peter Levin has earned selection as a nominee for the Allstate NACDA Spring Good Works Team through his time volunteering at University Hospitals in Cleveland, Ohio. Levin has volunteered in post-operative patient transport, assisted nurses with patient care, provided support for long-term patients, and helped with day-to-day needs on the post-operative floor, including directing families around the hospital.
  • Junior Gio Colasante has hit .432 in Ivy League play with 16 hits, three doubles, eight RBIs, and two home runs. In conference play, he ranks third in the league in hits (16), third in total bases (25), fourth in average (.432), fourth in slugging (.676), and ninth in OBP (.475) at the plate, while standing fifth in ERA (2.53) and seventh in opponents' average (.231) as a pitcher. Overall, for the year, he has hit a team-best .321 with 27 hits, 14 runs, 15 RBIs, five doubles, and four homers. For the Dartmouth series (Apr. 4-6), he went 7-for-12 (.583) with two doubles, a homer, and five RBIs as a hitter, while tossing five shutout innings as a pitcher. He hit 7-for-15 (.467) in the Penn series (Mar. 22-23) with multi-hit games in all three contests.
  • Senior outfielder/infielder George Cooper has tallied a .303 batting average alongside 27 hits, 12 runs, four doubles, four home runs, and 20 RBIs on the year. He ranks ninth in the league in RBIs (20). He hit homers in three straight games from Mar. 23-28. Cooper posted a 3-for-4 effort with a two-run homer in the win over Holy Cross (Mar. 25). In the series opener against Northeastern (Mar. 14), he went 3-for-4 with a triple and a double.
  • Senior outfielder Matt Giberti has notched a .284 batting average, 21 hits, a team-best 16 runs, and a 10-for-12 effort in stolen bases. He ranks second in the Ivy League in stolen bases (10) and fourth in triples (two). In Ivy only play, he has hit .297 with 11 hits, seven runs, and four RBIs.
  • Sophomore Jack Rickheim has added a .272 average with 22 hits, eight RBIs, 11 runs scored, and four doubles. In Ivy play, he has hit .273 with nine hits and five runs. He notched the go-ahead RBI in the bottom of the eighth in the 14-13 win over Holy Cross (Mar. 25).
  • Junior right-handed pitcher Callan Fang has tallied a 4.39 ERA with 25 strikeouts over 26.2 innings on the year. Fang stands sixth in the league in ERA (4.39). In Ivy only play, he ranks first in the conference in innings pitched (20.0) and second in strikeouts (20). He tossed 7.0 innings with seven strikeouts in the win over Yale (Mar. 28). Fang won the 2024 Ivy League Pitcher of the Year award and the 2023 Ivy League Rookie of the Year award.
  • Sophomore right-hander Truman Pauley has tallied 38 strikeouts over 31.2 innings pitched on the year. In the Ivy League, he ranks third in strikeouts (38), third in innings pitched (31.2), and third in opponents' average (.226). In Ivy only play, he stands sixth in strikeouts (16). Pauley tossed 6.0 innings in the win at Dartmouth (Apr. 4), allowing no earned runs with six strikeouts. He threw 6.2 innings with a career-high nine strikeouts, while allowing two runs at Northeastern (Mar. 15).
  • Harvard is set to host Cambridge Day on Apr. 19. The fan-friendly event is set to bring the Cambridge community together for a day of celebration with giveaways, food trucks, local vendors, and yard games.
  • Fenway Park will host this year's Baseball Beanpot on Tuesday, April 29. The college baseball doubleheader will feature Harvard and Northeastern in the championship game at 7:00 p.m. following the third-place matchup between Boston College and Massachusetts at 4:00 p.m. Fenway Park has hosted the tournament 24 times since it began in 1990, including most recently in 2019. Harvard has won five Beanpot titles all-time including in 1991, 1998 (co), 2005, 2014, and 2018.
  • Highlights from the Crimson's schedule include three trips to the South during non-league play, its first Ivy series at Penn (Mar. 22-23), its home opener vs. Holy Cross (Mar. 25), its first Ivy home series against Yale (Mar. 28-29), The Baseball Beanpot at Fenway Park (Apr. 29), the final series of the regular season at home vs. Columbia (May 3-4), and a hopeful berth in the four-team Ivy League Tournament (May 16-19).
