No. 20 Men’s Tennis Defeats No. 36 Cornell, 4-1, to Conclude Regular Season

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – No. 20 Harvard men's tennis concluded its regular season with a 4-1 victory over No. 36 Cornell this afternoon.

"What a way to finish the regular season and celebrate our seniors, Daniel, David, and Kareem, in their last home match," said Andrew Rueb '95, the Scott Mead '77 Head Coach for Harvard Men's Tennis.  "We played some awful doubles and started singles poorly but everyone dug in and responded with gusto.  A big shout out to seniors Danny Milavsky and David Lins our lock down No. 1 doubles team who finally lost after winning 15 straight matches!  Simply incredible."

After dropping the doubles point, the Crimson showed its dominance in singles play this afternoon.  Melchior Delloye was the first to get the Crimson on the board, posting a pair of 6-2 results to defeat Nathan Mao (Cornell) in straight sets.

Rohan Murali followed with his second impressive victory of the weekend, defeating Rodrigo Fernandes (Cornell), 6-3, 6-2 at the No. 4 spot.

Harvard's top two singles players provided the decisive victories of the day, beginning with Daniel Milavsky defeating the No. 49 nationally ranked player, Radu Papoe in a gritty 7-6 (2), 6-4 result.

"And then to have Danny step up again like the captain leader he is and pull out the win at No. 1 was icing on the cake," said Rueb.

Benjamin Privara then provided the clinching win, beating No. 101 Adit Sinha (Cornell), 7-6 (4), 7-5 to help close the Crimson's regular season with a win.

Rueb concluded by stating, "I'm proud of the team and all the singles guys today.  They competed with such heart.  Rohan, Melchior, and Danny all getting straight set wins was huge.  And then to see our first-year Benjamin Privara clinch for us, after having a rough outing yesterday, was poetic.  So proud of our guys."
