SAN JOSE, Calif. – Harvard University men's soccer alumnus Matt Freese '22 posted his first career shutout with the U.S Men's National Team in a 5-0 win over Trinidad and Tobago to open the Gold Cup on Sunday after earning his first career cap earlier in the month in a friendly against Turkey.
Freese tallied his first career win and clean sheet with the U.S. Men's National Team in the group's Gold Cup opener against Trinidad and Tobago at PayPal Park in San Jose, California on June 15, 2025. Freese made two saves over the full 90 minutes in a 5-0 win.
Freese made his debut with the USMNT in a friendly against Turkey at Rentschler Field in East Hartford, Connecticut on June 7, 2025. Freese played the full 90 minutes for the U.S., making three saves in a 2-1 setback.
A 2018 Second Team All-Ivy selection at Harvard, Freese has played in Major League Soccer for the Philadelphia Union (2019-22) and New York City FC (2023-present). He earned Team MVP honors for NYC FC following the 2024 season.
The U.S. will continue Gold Cup play with its final two group stage matches against Saudi Arabia (June 19) and Haiti (June 22).
