CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – This summer,
Audrey Szollosi worked as a Business Development Intern at JobsOhio, her home state's private, nonprofit economic development agency. A rising junior studying Economics and Government, she gained firsthand experience in how a privatized agency can partner with the government while moving at the speed of business.
Her favorite part? "The people I worked alongside," Audrey says. "Every day, they supported my work and made me smile!" The experience gave her a deeper understanding of economic development and the ways collaboration can drive growth across a state.
Her advice: "NETWORK! Reach out directly to professionals in the field, ask thoughtful questions, and show genuine interest in the organization's mission. Those conversations can open so many doors."
"Hello! My name is Audrey Szollosi, and I am a rising junior studying Economics and Government. This summer, I worked as a Business Development Intern at JobsOhio, my home state's private, nonprofit economic development agency. One unique aspect of JobsOhio (when compared to other states) is that, because it's privatized, the agency works in parallel with the government while moving at the speed of business. My favorite part of this experience was the people I worked alongside — every day, they supported my work and made me smile! For anyone interested in a similar opportunity, my advice is simple: NETWORK! I'd recommend reaching out directly to professionals in the field, asking thoughtful questions, and showing genuine interest in the organization's mission, as those conversations can open many doors!"
