Men’s Basketball Hosts Princeton, Penn over Martin Luther King Jr. Day Weekend

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard Men's Basketball hosts Princeton on Saturday, Jan. 17 at 2:00 p.m. (ESPN+) and Penn on Monday, Jan. 19 at 2:00 p.m. (ESPN+) over Martin Luther King Jr. Day Weekend at Lavietes Pavilion with the Crimson coming off a 79-54 win over Columbia in its first Ivy League road game of the season.

  • Under the leadership of Tommy Amaker, The Thomas G. Stemberg '71 Family Endowed Coach for Harvard Men's Basketball, Harvard has engaged with the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in significant ways. The Crimson has made multiple trips to play Howard in Washington, D.C., including over MLK weekend in 2016 and 2019, while also touring the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial. The team has also made two trips to Atlanta in recent seasons, playing at Mercer in 2018 and at Morehouse – Dr. King's alma mater – in 2022. While in Atlanta, the Crimson has attended Sunday services at Ebenezer Baptist Church and visited The King Center, spending time at the tomb of Dr. King.
  • Junior guard Xavier Nesbitt has earned selection as a nominee for the Allstate NACDA Winter Good Works Team. Nesbitt garnered the recognition for going above and beyond in his commitment to community service, academic achievement, and athletic performance. Through Harvard's existing relationship with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Boston and a fellowship with The Team, a nonpartisan civic engagement organization, Nesbitt organized a basketball clinic and civic engagement talk at the Charlestown Boys and Girls Club during the 2024–25 academic year.
  • Playing in the Crimson's first Ivy League road game of the season, junior forward Thomas Batties II led four Crimson in double figures with a game and season-high 24 points as Harvard beat Columbia, 79-54, on Jan. 10 at Levien Gymnasium, marking Harvard's largest margin of victory in a conference game since a 25-point, 63-38 win at Penn on Jan. 31, 2015.
  • Harvard features four double-figure scorers in a group that includes sophomore guard Robert Hinton (16.0 points per game), senior guard Chandler Piggé (13.8), junior forward Thomas Batties II (10.9), and sophomore guard Tey Barbour (11.6). That quartet has combined to score 851 of the Crimson's 1,131 points (75.2 percent) on the year.
  • Among the Crimson's four double-figure scorers, three of them averaged fewer than 7.0 points per game as first-years. Senior Chandler Piggé (1.9 points per game in 2022-23; 13.8 in 2025-26), junior Thomas Batties II (6.8 points per game in 2023-24; 11.8 in 2025-26), and sophomore Tey Barbour (4.8 points per game in 2024-25; 11.6 in 2025-26) have all increased their production over their careers.
  • In the Ivy League rankings, Harvard stands first in free throw percentage (79.4), second in scoring defense (67.9), second in steals per game (7.69), and fourth in field goal percentage (47.1). In Ivy only play, the team sits first in steals per game (9.50), second in scoring defense (65.0), and third in 3-point percentage defense (30.6) In the NCAA, the Crimson ranks fourth in free throw percentage (79.4), fifth in fewest fouls per game (13.6), 55th in scoring defense (67.9), and 55th in 3-point percentage (36.6).
  • Sophomore guard Robert Hinton has averaged 16.0 points, 4.9 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.4 steals per game on the year, while shooting 83.3 percent on free throws and 48.5 percent from the floor. Hinton ranks second in the Ivy League in field goals (98), third in free throw percentage (83.3), fourth in points (256), fourth in steals per game (1.4), sixth in free throws (50), seventh in points per game (16.0), and seventh in minutes per game (31.4). In Ivy only play, he stands third in field goals (15) and 10th in points per game (16.5). On the year, he has scored in double figures 12 times, netted 20 or more points four times, and eclipsed 30 points twice. He earned Ivy League Player of the Week honors on Dec. 8 and gained a spot on the Lou Henson Award Early Season Watch List as a candidate for the mid-major player of the year award on Dec. 18. Hinton – the 2024-25 Ivy League Rookie of the Year – averaged 14.6 points and 4.1 rebounds per game in 2024-25.
  • Hinton dropped a career-high 35 points on 12-of-22 field goals and 11-of-12 free throws with eight rebounds at UMass (Dec. 3). Hinton poured in 34 points on 13-of-17 field goals, 4-of-5 3-pointers, and 4-of-4 free throws vs. BU (Nov. 22). He totaled 26 points, five rebounds, and five assists at Furman (Dec. 6) and scored 22 points vs. UNH (Nov. 9). Hinton netted 17 points on 8-of-12 shooting at Columbia (Jan. 10). Hinton notched 16 points and seven boards against both Holy Cross (Dec. 20) and Dartmouth (Jan. 5) and contributed 16 points at Army (Nov. 15). He netted 13 points, including the go-ahead free throws with 5.1 seconds left at Marist (Nov. 16) and added 12 points and nine rebounds at BC (Nov. 26).
  • Senior guard Chandler Piggé has posted 13.8 points, 3.9 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 1.7 steals per game on the year. He ranks second in the Ivy League in steals per game (1.7), fourth in minutes per game (32.8), fifth in field goals (87), sixth in assists per game (3.3), seventh in points (221), seventh in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.7), and 10th in points per game (13.8). He has scored in double figures in 13 games on the year. Piggé – an Honorable Mention All-Ivy selection and CSC Academic All-District honoree last season – notched 13.1 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game in 2024-25. He has steadily increased his production over his career, averaging 1.9 points per game in 2022-23, 8.1 points per game in 2023-24, and 13.1 points per game in 2024-25.
  • Piggé totaled 23 points and six assists, while shooting 8-of-11 from the floor vs. UNH (Nov. 9). He dropped 21 points with a career-high nine assists at Penn State (Nov. 19) and netted 18 points at Colgate (Dec. 28). Piggé posted 16 points and seven rebounds vs. Holy Cross (Dec. 20). He registered 14 points each against Dartmouth (Jan. 5), Army (Nov. 15) and Marist (Nov. 16), connecting on a game-tying 3-pointer with 35.8 seconds left against the Red Foxes. He netted 15 points against both Northeastern (Nov. 11) and Bryant (Nov. 29). Piggé posted 11 points and seven rebounds at Columbia (Jan. 10).
  • Sophomore guard Tey Barbour has registered 11.6 points and a team-high 5.4 rebounds per game on the year, while shooting 40.6 percent from 3-point distance. Barbour ranks fourth in the Ivy League in 3-pointers made (39), sixth in 3-pointers per game (2.4), sixth in minutes per game (32.4), and eighth in rebounds per game (5.4). He has scored in double figures in 11 games on the year and hit three or more 3-pointers eight times. Barbour notched 4.8 points and 1.8 rebounds per game on the year in 2024-25.
  • Barbour scored a career-high 18 points with eight rebounds vs. Holy Cross (Dec. 20), hitting 4-of-5 3-pointers. Barbour matched his career high with 18 points on 7-of-10 field goals and 4-of-6 treys at Colgate (Dec. 28). He posted 15 points and nine rebounds at BC (Nov. 26) after scoring 15 points vs. BU (Nov. 22). He posted 14 points, six rebounds, and a career-high four made 3-pointers vs. UNH (Nov. 9) before netting 12 points on four 3-pointers vs. Northeastern (Nov. 11). He compiled 12 points and seven rebounds at Penn State (Nov. 19). Barbour netted 10 points and hit the game-winning 3-pointer vs. Bryant (Nov. 29).
  • Junior forward Thomas Batties II has registered 11.8 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game on the year, while shooting 51.1 percent from the field, 51.8 percent from 3-point distance, and 95.8 percent on free throws. He ranks third in the Ivy League in 3-point percentage (52.8), sixth in blocks per game (1.0), 10th in field goal percentage (51.1), and 10th in minutes per game (30.0). In Ivy only play, he stands third in assists per game (4.5), fifth in rebounds per game (6.5), and 11th in points per game (16.0). He has scored in double figures 10 times on the year. In 2024-25, Batties II averaged 11.0 points and 5.0 rebounds per game on the year after registering 6.8 points and 4.2 rebounds per game on the 2023-24 season.
  • Batties II poured in a season-high 24 points, five rebounds, and four assists at Columbia (Jan. 10). He dropped 22 points, seven rebounds, and three steals at Colgate (Dec. 28). He tallied 17 points, a career-high five made 3-pointers, and a career-high six assists at Penn State (Nov. 19). He scored a game-high 17 points against both MIT (Nov. 7) and Army (Nov. 15). Batties II posted 14 points and a career-high six assists vs. BU (Nov. 22) and notched 13 points at BC (Nov. 26) and vs. UMass (Dec. 3). He totaled 12 Batties points and nine rebounds vs. Bryant (Nov. 29).
  • Sophomore guard Austin Hunt has tallied 7.4 points and 3.4 rebounds per game on the year, while shooting 51.5 percent from the field and 43.8 percent from 3-point range. Hunt scored a career-high 19 points on 8-of-9 field goals and 3-of-4 3-pointers vs. Holy Cross (Dec. 20). He netted 16 points and hit 4-of-7 treys vs. Dartmouth (Jan. 5). Hunt notched 13 points, six rebounds, and three assists vs. UNH (Nov. 9) and netted 10 points at Furman (Dec. 6). Hunt averaged 7.8 points and 3.6 rebounds per game in 2024-25.
  • Sophomore guard Ben Eisendrath has notched 5.2 points, 2.9 assists, 1.6 rebounds, and 1.6 steals per game on the year, while shooting 50.8 percent from the field. Eisendrath ranks third in the Ivy League in steals per game (1.9) and ninth in assists per game (2.9). He scored a career-high 15 points on 6-of-7 field goals at Penn State (Nov. 19), tallied 13 points, five assists, and five steals at Columbia (Jan. 10), and netted 10 points at Furman (Dec. 6). Eisendrath distributed a career-high nine assists vs. BU (Nov. 22).
  • Harvard trails Princeton in the all-time series, 51-141. The Crimson holds a 14-21 mark against the Tigers under Tommy Amaker.
  • Harvard holds a 48-140 record all-time vs. Penn in a series that dates back to the 1902-03 season. Under head coach Tommy Amaker, the Crimson has registered a 22-14 mark vs. the Quakers.
