CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard skiing heads to the Dartmouth Carnival on Friday for a two-day competition featuring both the Nordic and Alpine teams.
The Alpine program is set for the Giant Slalom on day one and the slalom on day two at Dartmouth Skiway, while the Nordic team will compete in the 7.5-kilometer classic on Friday and the 15-kilometer freestyle on Saturday.
WHAT TO KNOW | ALPINE SKIING
- In Thursday's giant slalom, sophomore Skylar Sheppard led the women with a 15th-place finish after posting the fifth-fastest second run, while Duncan Armstrong paced the men with a ninth-place resultt.
- Friday's slalom was contested under continued snowfall and extreme cold.
- Luke Kearing led the men with an 11th-place finish in a tightly grouped field, followed by Armstrong in 19th.
- On the women's side, Sheppard finished tied for 17th after sitting fifth following the first run.
- The week prior, the Alpine team kicked off its 2026 season with some big performances from Ducan Armstrong and Skylar Sheppard.
- Sophomore Duncan Armstrong finished fourth in the men's giant slalom, while Skylar Sheppard returned to competition with a sixth-place finish in the slalom.
- The women's team recorded two top-30 finishes in the slalom, with Sheppard placing sixth and junior Emma Speiser finishing 30th.
- Luke Kearing finished 13th in his first run of the season for the men.
- Armstrong, a 2025 NCAA qualifier, posted a first-run time of 1:04.55, just 0.36 seconds off the leader, before completing his second run in 1:05.10.
WHAT TO KNOW | NORDIC SKIING
- Last week in Waterville, day one saw Bennett Hutchinson finish 18th on the men's side.
- On the women's side, Hayden McJunkin, Hanna Wilsey, and Breagh Bridge each recorded top-30 finishes on day one.
- Day two featured continued success for the Crimson, highlighted by Braeden Bellizzi's 12th-place finish, just one minute off the leader.
- The women placed four skiers inside the top 30 on day two, led by Clara Lake in 18th.
- Breagh Bridge followed in 23rd, Meredith Schwartz finished 27th, and Hayden McJunkin rounded out the group in 28th.
- To begin the season at the St. Lawrence Carnival, Harvard recorded four top-30 finishes among EISA skiers, including three top-20 results.
- The women accounted for three of the program's four top-30 finishes on the day.
- Senior Hayden McJunkin paced the Crimson with a 15th-place finish among EISA skiers in the women's freestyle sprint, posting a time of 3:26.77 for 26 EISA points.
- Junior Clara Lake followed closely behind in 16th place with a time of 3:27.38, earning 25 EISA points.
- Sophomore Elias Soulé led the men with a 17th-place finish among EISA competitors in the men's freestyle sprint, crossing the line in 2:52.48 for 27 EISA points.
- Junior Breagh Bridge rounded out Harvard's top-30 finishers with a 25th-place effort in the women's freestyle sprint (3:31.41) for 21 EISA points.
