Lara Beekhuis and sophomore midfielder
Tilly Butterworth will serve as the Harvard field hockey's team captains for the 2026 seasons. Two staples in the Crimson starting XI, Beekhuis and Butterworth have combined for 79 starts across the last three seasons.
A two-time All-Ivy League honoree and a two-time National Field Hockey Coaches Association's Northeast All-Region First Team selection, Beekhuis is a key component for the Crimson attack. A native of Laren, Netherlands, Beekhuis tallied career-highs in goals (11), assists (6) and points (28) in 20 starts last season, as Beekhuis has recorded double-digit goals in all three seasons of her collegiate career. At the 2025 NCAA Field Hockey Championships, Beekhuis earned the NCAA Elite Scholar-Athlete Award, an award that recognize the student-athlete with the highest cumulative GPA at the finals site for each of the NCAA's championships.
Butterworth started in every match in the Crimson's march to the 2025 NCAA Tournament Semifinals last season, providing pace and dribbling down the wings for Harvard. A native of Norwich, England, Butterworth scored a career-high five goals to go along with career-highs in both assists (1) and points (11). Butterworth is set to become the Crimson's first junior team captain since
Emily Guckian '25 in 2023. Butterworth earned NFHCA Northeast All-Region Second Team honors for the first time in her career last year.
The 2025 campaign was a landmark season for the Crimson, as Harvard earned a spot in the NCAA Tournament Semifinals for the second time in school history as the Crimson set the program record for most wins in a season with a 19-2 record. Five Crimson garnered All-America honors, the most in program history and a tally tied with Northwestern for most All-America honorees in the nation.
