Gorriaran Advances to 800m Final at 2026 NCAA Indoor Championships

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – For a second-straight year, junior Sophia Gorriaran will represent the Crimson in the women's 800m final at the NCAA Indoor Championships after a spirited effort in the prelims on the opening day at the Randal Tyson Track Center.

Running in the second heat of the women's 800m prelims, Gorriaran made her move into the lead pack just before the bell lap, moving into the top four and cementing her position there over the last 200 meters of the race. A native of Providence, Rhode Island, Gorriaran punched her ticket to the finals with a time of 2:02.30, the fourth-fastest time in the prelims.

A five-time All-American across both indoor and outdoor competition, Gorriaran will run in her second indoor women's 800m final, as last season saw Gorriaran take seventh with a time of 2:02.57 at the Virginia Beach Sports Center. The 2026 Ivy League Champion in both the indoor women's mile and 800m this season, Gorriaran is in fantastic form this indoor season, as she ended the indoor regular season by setting a new NCAA record in the women's 1000m with a time of 2:37.72.
