Softball Meets Sacred Heart in Midweek Doubleheader Tomorrow

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard softball travels to Fairfield, Connecticut for its midweek contest of the 2026 season, as the Crimson face Sacred Heart in a doubleheader on Wednesday, Mar. 18. Game one will start at 2 p.m. while the second game of the twinbill is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. Harvard fans can stream both contests live on ESPN+.

CRIMSON UPDATES
  • Harvard will take a 6-11-1 record to Sacred Heart on Wednesday, as the Crimson dropped all four games against St. John's and Army over the weekend.
  • Junior infielder Sophie Sun led the way for the Crimson offensively in Queens, New York last weekend. A native of Austin, Texas, Sun posted team-highs in batting average (.636), hits (7), runs (4), RBIs (4), total bases (10), slugging percentage (.909) and on-base percentage (.692) across the four games in the Empire State.
  • With a home run in the weekend finale against Army, Sun reached 20 career home runs during her Crimson tenure
  • The Crimson is the only team in the Ivy League with a team earned run average below 4.00, as the Crimson's mark of 3.28 leads the conference. Harvard's 88 strikeouts also lead Ivy League as well.
  • Harvard's team captains this season are senior pitcher Ryan Grace, junior outfielder Audrey Szollosi and junior infielder Megan Davies.
  • Head coach Jenny Rohn is in her third season at the helm of the Crimson's softball program, as Rohn owns a 59-41-1 record at Harvard and a 94-88-1 record in her coaching career.
SCOUTING THE PIONEERS
  • Sacred Heart is 7-13 this season with a 4-2 record after the first two weekends of the Metro Atlantic schedule.
  • Last weekend saw the Pioneers win the series against Canisius at home. After taking a 6-2 win in the series opener, Sacred Heart suffered a 9-1 loss in the second game of the doubleheader on Saturday. A 4-1 win on Sunday cemented the Pioneer's series victory against Canisius. Sacred Heart will face Stony Brook on the road today at 1:00 p.m. before facing the Crimson.
  • Sacred Heart ranks third in the MAAC in its with 160 and second with a team ERA of 4.47.
SERIES HISTORY
  • Harvard and Sacred Heart will meet on the softball for only the second and third times on Wednesday, as the Crimson lead the all-time series, 1-0.
  • The Crimson earned a 11-0 run-rule win in the first-ever meeting against Sacred Heart back in 2023. Five different Crimson drove in runs against the Pioneers, as senior pitcher Riley Flynn tossed a five-inning complete game shutout, striking out nine batters in the process while only allowing two hits.
LIGHTS OUT
  • Harvard's pitching staff is once again in stellar form during the 2026 season, as the Crimson's personnel is defined by their skill and depth.
  • After 18 contests, Harvard leads the Ivy League with a team ERA below 4.00, as the Crimson lead the Ivy League with an ERA of 3.28.
  • Hunter, who won Ivy League Pitcher of the Week honors in back-to-back weeks earlier this season, ranks second in the Ivy League in both ERA (1.96) and strikeouts (42). A native of Camarillo, California, Hunter garnered All-Ivy League Second Team honors during the 2025 season.
  • Grace's earned run average of 1.73 leads the Ancient Eight this year across 24.1 innings of work, as she also ranks first in the Ivy League with an opposing batting average of .253.
  • Harvard is the only school in the Ivy League to have two pitchers with an ERA below 2.00.
R.O.Y. FACTORY
  • The last three Ivy League Rookies of the Year are all products of the Crimson, as Harvard is the first school in Ivy League history to produce three consecutive Rookie of the Year honorees.
  • In 2025, sophomore utility Alexa Muller won Ivy League Rookie of the Year after shining at the plate, especially in conference play.
  • Muller led all first-years last season in the Ancient Eight in batting average (.368) and hits (28). A native of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, Muller ranked third in batting average (.436) and second in on-base percentage (.515) in Ivy League contests last season.
  • The 2024 season saw Sun orchestrate one of the greatest rookie seasons in recent memory, leading all first-years in the NCAA in slugging percentage (.797) and ranked third among all first-years in the nation in batting average (.421).
  • Flynn was the 2023 Ivy League Rookie of the Year after setting a new program record for saves in a season with six, as the Phoenix, Arizona native was the 2023 Ivy League Tournament Most Outstanding Player after tallying 11 innings in all three wins for the Crimson.
  • To start the season, first-years Sheila Forbes and Hannah Ziecik have both earned Ivy League Rookie of the Week honors. Ziecik ranks second on the Crimson in OPS (.877) and third on the team in batting average (.364). A native of Naples, Florida, Forbes is batting .333 with a .440 on-base percentage that ranks second on the team this year.
HERE COMES THE SUN
  • In her third season with the Crimson, Sun is one of the most explosive offensive talents in the Ivy League.
  • Starting in all 18 games this season at shortstop, Sun leads the Crimson in batting average (.382), on-base percentage (1.028), RBIs (18), total bases (32), slugging percentage (.582) and on-base percentage (.446). Sun's 18 RBIs ranks second in the Ivy League this year.
  • The first student-athlete in conference history to win Ivy League Player and Rookie of the Year in the same season, Sun ranked in the top five in the Ivy League in batting average (.411), on-base percentage (.469), runs scored (33), hits (53) and total bases (81) during the 2025 season.
  • A 2024 Top 10 Finalist for the Tucci/NFCA Freshman of the Year award, Sun is the current all-time program leader in career batting average (.410) and slugging percentage (.691).
  • Sun ranked No. 98 in D1Softball's D100 Top 100 Mid-Major players, only one of three Ivy League student-athletes to receive the honor to start the season.
FIRST INNING FIREWORKS
  • Harvard softball is appointment viewing for Crimson fans, as the first inning is an eventful frame for the Crimson this season.
  • The Crimson is outscoring its opponents, 19-14, in the first inning of action.
  • Harvard is 5-1 this season when leading after the first inning during the 2026 season.
IVY LEAGUE EXCELLENCE
  • Over the last five full seasons, Harvard is one of the top softball programs in the Ivy League, owning a league-best 90-36 record in conference play from 2018 to 2025.
  • In that time span, Harvard is the only team in the Ancient Eight to not drop double-digit conference games in a single season.
  • Harvard won back-to-back Ivy League regular season titles in 2023 and 2024, as it won the inaugural Ivy League Tournament in Princeton in 2023.
