CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- The No. 1 Harvard men's lightweight rowing team returns to the water for the first time in three weeks when it looks to defend its title at the Eastern Sprints on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester on Sunday. Preliminary heats start at 8:50 a.m. for the Harvard lights with finals racing beginning at 2:20 p.m.Â
EARC Sprint Regatta and Jope Cup
• The history of the EARC Sprint Regatta for lightweight boats began in 1963 in Worcester; a win by Cornell. Harvard claimed its first Eastern Sprints title in 1966 and has won 23 titles.
• Harvard claimed back-to-back titles in 2024 and 2025. Last year's varsity eight boat won in a time of 5:45.739; more than three and a half seconds clear of Cornell.
• Against Ivy League boats this season, Harvard has topped Cornell and Penn (Apr. 4), Dartmouth (Apr. 11) at home, and Princeton and Yale (Apr. 25) for the Goldthwait and Vogel Cups in Cambridge.
• Racing for the Goldthwait and Vogel Cups was Harvard's last time competing on the water. The varsity eight and second varsity eight each earned hardware as the 2V boat claimed the Prentke Cup.
