CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- The No. 1 Harvard men's lightweight rowing team hosts Yale and Princeton on Saturday morning for the 100th race for the Goldthwait Cup. The Goldthwait will be awarded to the top varsity eight, while the Vogel Cup is awarded on points. This year will also be the first Prentke Cup to be awarded to the top-finishing junior varsity crew.
The Vogel Cup and Goldthwait Cup
• Saturday marks the 100th all-time race for the Goldthwait Cup, which started with a Princeton win on the Housatonic River in Connecticut in 1922.
• Harvard has won 47 Goldthwait cups, while Princeton has claimed 31 and Yale 21.
• Last year, Harvard won the varsity and junior varsity races to claim the Goldthwait and Vogel Cups. Harvard returns four oarsmen from last year's varsity boat to race in the 1V this weekend.
• A week ago, Harvard swept Navy and MIT for the Haines Cup to retain its No. 1 IRCA/IRA ranking. Yale's varsity downed Dartmouth last week and ranks No. 4, while Princeton is No. 5 after defeating Georgetown.
