ITHACA, N.Y.-Senior co-captain Elizabeth
Goodman-Bacon scored the game's lone goal early in the second half
to lift the Harvard field hockey team to a 1-0 road win against
Cornell Saturday afternoon at Dodson Field.
Freshman Cynthia Tassopoulos made eight saves to earn the first
shutout of her career and help the Crimson (5-7, 2-2 Ivy League)
even its conference record. Goodman-Bacon scored in the fifth
minute of the second half. Following a penalty corner, she took a
pass from sophomore Carly Dickson at the right post and tipped the
ball past Cornell goalie Melanie Jue for her second goal of the
season.
Tassopoulos made four saves in each half, while Jue stopped two
in the first half and three in the second. Goodman-Bacon got
another ball past Jue later in the second half, but Stephanie
Sanders made a defensive save to keep the Big Red (8-3, 2-2) in the
game. Cornell held a 15-10 edge in shots and a 9-5 advantage in
penalty corners.
The win lifted the Crimson into a tie with Cornell for third
place in the Ivy League standings. Harvard handed Cornell just its
second loss in 12 home games since the Big Red made Dodson Field
its home field at the start of last season.
