NEW HAVEN, Conn. -Sophomore Carly Dickson
recorded a goal and an assist, but Yale withstood the Harvard field
hockey team's three unanswered goals in the second half to hang on
for a 4-3 win in the Ivy League opener for both teams Saturday
afternoon at Johnson Field.
Ashley McCauley scored three of Yale's four first-half goals.
Senior Elizabeth Goodman-Bacon and junior Chloe Keating also scored
for the Crimson (3-1, 0-1 Ivy League). Freshman Cynthia Tassopoulos
made eight saves in the Harvard goal.
The Bulldogs (3-2, 1-0) jumped on top early, as Marissa
Waldemore scored at the 2:45 mark of the first half. McCauley
scored less than seven minutes later and then added two scores in
less than three minutes late in the half. Katie Cantore assisted on
McCauley's second and third goals.
Harvard's comeback effort got going about 15 minutes into the
second half, when Goodman-Bacon recorded her first goal of the
season. The team co-captain deflected in Dickson's shot off a
penalty corner following the stick stop by sophomore Allie Kimmel.
Keating cut the lead to two with her sixth goal of the season at
63:49. Dickson had the final tally on a corner with time expired.
Senior co-captain Kristin Bannon and Kimmel had the insert and
stop, respectively, for assists on Dickson's goal.
