Harvard captured its second straight victory in the Harvard Challenge Saturday (Harvard Athletic Communications).

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Harvard track and field team combined for 19 event wins, and powered the Ivy League to a resounding victory over the Patriot League in the second annual Harvard Challenge Saturday at Gordon Indoor Track. Individually, the Harvard women recorded the highest point total on the day with 86, well ahead of second-place Brown's 40, while the men's squad finished a close second to Army, totaling 60 points to Army's 67.
In the women's competition, the Ivy League dominated the action, posting a 126-33 victory, while the Ivy men edged the Patriot League competitors, 82-72.
The shined on their home track as seven individuals and one relay team posted ECAC-qualifying marks on the day. Danielle Barbian led the group with an ECAC-qualifying, winning time of 7.70 in the 60 meters, and was followed by teammate Ashley Ifeadike (7.83) in the event. Gabrielle Scott (25.70) and Shannon Conway (25.75) finished 1-2 in the 200 meters, and Scott led a Harvard 1-2-3 finish in the 500 with a top time of 1:14.61. Alaina Murphy claimed the 1,000 meters in a time of 2:50.41 with teammate Meghan Looney right on her tail in 2:50.77 and Kelly Morgan's second-place time of 9:52.08 in the 3,000 meters represented an ECAC-qualifying time.
Olivia Abbate turned in an ECAC mark in the 60 meter hurdles, posting a time of 8.82 which was good for second place, and Abbate teamed with Conway, Magdalena Robak and Molly Renfer to notch a first-place and ECAC qualifying time of 3:52.11 in the 4x440 yard relay. The distance medley relay also claimed a win, with Kailyn Kuzmuk, Erika Veidis, Natalia Paine and Nicole Cochran posting a winning time of 12:08.05.
The field athletes powered to a number of top finishes, beginning with Mary Hirst's first-place ECAC mark of 1.77 meters (5' 9.75") in the high jump. Allie Pace and Sydnie Leroy both cleared 3.55 meters (11' 7.75") in the pole vault to tie for first, and Olivia Weeks (5.78, 18' 11.75") and Ashtynn Baltimore (5.69, 18' 8") finished 1-2 and qualified for the ECACs in the long jump. Mariah Browne captured the triple jump with a distance of 11.03 meters (36' 2.25") and Shannon Watt rounded out the women's day with a winning ECAC mark in the shot put of 13.74 meters (45' 1"). Hirst also posted a strong finish in the Harvard Multi-Meet, taking second in the pentathlon with a total score of 3404.
The men saw four individuals qualify for the IC4A meet and eight competitors and relays claim wins on the day. Jonathan Meminger, in his second meet of the season, owned the sprints, claiming the title in the 60 meters (7.02) and the 200 meters (22.25). John Dingus followed with a winning IC4A mark of 1:04.71 in the 500 meters and Connor Reck captured the 1,000 meters in 2:28.91. Jarvis Harris posted an IC4A qualifying time of 8.23 in the 60 meter hurdle preliminaries, and went on to capture the event title. Darcy Wilson, Zach Herring, Brian Paison and Jeremy Gilmour rounded out the running victories with a winning distance medley relay time of 10:10.34.
The field events were also a high point for the men as Ben Glauser captured the shot put with an IC4A mark of 16.96 (55' 7.75"). Teammate Dustin Brode was right on his tail with a toss of 15.64 meters (51' 3.75"), which was also an IC4A-qualifying throw. Matthew Polega was the final event winner on the day, taking the weight throw with a 16.68-meter (54' 8.75") mark.
With the indoor season in full swing, the Crimson will be busy next weekend as it will send competitors to the Terrier Invitational, the Penn State National and the Saturday at Bowdoin and Saturday at the Armory meets.
