CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Director of Harvard
track and field and cross country Jason Saretsky announced the
hiring of two new assistant coaches Wednesday. Marc Mangiacotti and
Andrew Dubs are the newest members of the Harvard coaching staff.
Saretsky also announced the restructuring of the Harvard track and
field and cross country coaches.
“I am thrilled to add two outstanding coaches to our
program,” said Saretsky. “Both coach Mangiacotti and
coach Dubs have tremendous experience working with academically
oriented student-athletes and they are both proven winners. They
both possess incredible technical knowledge of the events they will
be working with and are tireless recruiters. We had an opportunity
to do some reshuffling this summer, and I am confident the changes
we made will have a dramatic impact on our student-athletes'
experiences as well as our results. It is going to be an exciting
year.”
Mangiacotti comes to Harvard as an assistant coach after
spending the previous two seasons at Brown, where he served as
associate head coach and mentored the sprinters and hurdlers. With
the Crimson, Mangiacotti will oversee the men's sprinters and
hurdles. During his time at Brown, he made a big impact on the
Bears sprinters, coaching five Ivy League champions that combined
for nine league titles. He also coached 15 athletes that earned
All-Ivy League credentials and saw his group break four school
records. Prior to his time at Brown, Mangiacotti served as the
co-head coach at Wheaton (Mass.), and assistant coach at Houston
and Bridgewater State.
Dubs joins the Harvard coaching staff after spending the 2011-12
season working at the University of North Carolina as the throwing
coach for the track & field program. Dubs' primary event
group with the Crimson will be the throwers. The 2011-12 season saw
Dubs help the UNC throwing corps yield three ACC scorers, two
first-team All-ACC honorees and two NCAA qualifiers. He was also
responsible for bringing one of the best recruiting classes of
throwers in the nation to UNC. Prior to his time at North Carolina,
Dubs was a volunteer assistant at Auburn, studying under the
tutelage of Auburn throwing coach Jerry Clayton, and an assistant
at his high school alma mater, Council Rock South in Holland,
Pa.
In addition to the new faces in the coaching ranks, Saretsky
announced a restructuring of his staff, most notably promoting
women's sprints/hurdles/heptathlon/men's and
women's horizontal jumps coach Kebba Tolbert to associate
head coach. Tolbert is in his second season with the Crimson and
aided the Harvard sprints group to one of its best seasons in
recent history in 2011-12. Brenner Abbott, in his second year at
Harvard, will coach the vertical jumps and decathlon while
Priscilla Bayley, also in her second year at Harvard, takes over as
the men's and women's middle distance and women's distance
coach. Bayley will also serve as the recruiting coordinator for the
entire staff.
