CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard track and field opens its indoor season Saturday, Dec. 7, hosting the Harvard Open at the Gordon Indoor Track.
The field events will begin at 9 a.m. with the women's weight throw. The women's 60 hurdles kick off the running events at 10 a.m.
Twenty-seven (27) collegiate and club teams will be in attendance, including 14 men's squads and 13 women's teams. Dartmouth, Holy Cross and Southern New Hampshire are among the Division I squads attending.
Last year, the Harvard women won Heps, beating out Cornell on the last day of the meet. The Crimson had three All-America finishes, the most for Harvard since 1982. Martina Salander earned a spot on the first team with a fifth-place finish in the pentathlon. Adabelle Ekechukwu (weight throw) and Erika Veidis (800) also return after earning second team All-America honors a year ago.
The men ranked third overall at Heps a season ago, capturing their best finish since 1985. Ben Glauser took home the men's title in weight throw with a mark of 19.37 (63'6.75''). The distance group will also be a strength for the men, led by Maksim Korolev, who gained All-America status during the cross country season.
After the Harvard Open, the Crimson will be in action next on Jan. 12, traveling to Hanover, N.H., for the Dartmouth Relays.
