CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Four members of the Harvard track
and field team have received All-America honors, the United States
Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA)
announced Monday. The Crimson accounted for one second-team
All-America nod and three honorable mention accolades.
Rookie Autumne Franklin capped a stellar freshman campaign by
garnering second-team All-America honors in the 400 hurdles. She
was one of 18 Harvard student-athletes to qualify for the NCAA East
Preliminary meet and advanced through two rounds of the 400 hurdles
to qualify as an All-American. She holds the second-fastest 400
hurdles time in school history at 58.70, a time she set in a
runner-up showing at the 2013 Outdoor Heptagonal Championships. She
becomes the first Harvard female freshman to attain outdoor
All-America status since Lindsey Scherf '08 took seventh in
the 5,000 in 2005.
Senior Mary Hirst earned honorable mention accolades thanks to a
strong season in the high jump. Her personal best of 1.81
(5'11.25”) came at the NCAA Preliminary meet and her
21st-place finish at the outdoor championships saw her gain the
honorable mention nod. Junior Dustin Brode set the new school shot
put mark at 18.45 (60'6.5”) at the East Prelims and
took 20th at the NCAA Championships for an honorable mention honor.
Junior Maksim Korolev was the final honorable mention recipient,
qualifying for the finals in the 10,000 and placing 24th in Eugene,
Ore., at the championships.
The 18 NCAA preliminary meet qualifications and four NCAA
qualifications both represented program-highs for the Crimson.
