Mageras was selected to the All-Ancient Eight first team after a strong performance at the Ivy League Championships (Gil Talbot).
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard fencing hosts the ninth-annual Beanpot at the Malkin Athletic Center Wednesday, Feb. 10. This will be the second time that the Crimson will be hosting the event against Boston College, Brandeis and MIT, which will be broadcast on the Ivy League Digital Network starting at 6 p.m.

About the Beanpot
The fencing Beanpot has been played since 2008 and Harvard has claimed the title in all eight years. Bill Spaulding and Chris Boscherini will be commentating the event on the Ivy League Digital Network.

Harvard competed in the Ivy League Championships where it placed fourth as a team with a 2-3 record on the weekend. Stephen Mageras and Jerry Chang were named to the All-Ivy first team while Alexander Ryjik, Michael Woo and Nicolas Simko received second team accolades. Mageras led all saber fencers with a 12-3 mark, as Chang finished behind him with an 11-3 record.

Leading the Way
Head coach Peter Brand is in his 17th season at the helm for the Crimson, which has posted a winning record in the last 14 seasons under his watch. Harvard has won eight Ivy League Championships during his tenure, while also winning the 2006 National Championship. Brand owns a 175-78 mark on the men's side and has coached a combined 47 All-Americans at Harvard.
Last Season
Harvard went 13-5-1 during the 2014-15 season, finishing seventh as a team at the NCAA Championships. Harvard returns six letterwinners from last year's squad: Sabre fencers Aliya Itzkowitz, Adrienne Jarocki, foil fencers Mackenzie Lawrence, Hali Nelson, Liana Yamin, Hellary Zhang.

Harvard added one freshman in Albert Chien, who fences epee.
Aye Aye, Captain
Duncan O'Brien '16 and Michael Woo '16, were named the captains for the 2015-16 campaign. O'Brien enters his second year as captain.
Coming Up
Harvard continues its 2016 season at the NCAA Northeast Regional, hosted by Vassar at the Walker Field House, Sunday, March 13. The top fencers at the event will have the opportunity to compete at the NCAA Championships.
