Harvard has won eight straight meetings on the women's side, five on the men's (Gil Talbot).
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Harvard-Yale track meet dates back to 1891, and the Crimson will meet the Bulldogs for the 114th time on Saturday, April 16 in New Haven. The first events will begin at noon while the final event will kick off at 3:55 p.m.
By the Numbers
- 1: Two Crimson runners lead the country in their respective events: Paige Kouba (3,000S) and Courtney Smith (10K).
- 3: Harvard is in search of its third-straight outdoor Heps title on the women's side, while the men are in search of their first championship since 1983.
- 4: Four Harvard women have combined to post five times greater than the Olympic trials standard: Gabby Thomas, Autumne Franklin, Paige Kouba and Courtney Smith.
- 5: Harvard track and field has combined to sweep Yale in each of the past five seasons. The Harvard women have captured eight-straight wins against their historic rival.
Looking Back
The first Harvard-Yale meet took place in 1891, with the Crimson posting an 85-27 victory. Harvard's men lead the all-time series with the Bulldogs, 64-48-1, while the women, whose series began in 1978 following the Harvard/Radcliffe merger, hold a 27-11 advantage. The meet this season is Harvard's only dual.
Honor Roll
Sophomore Courtney Smith was named the USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week April 5. Smith posted the eighth-fastest time in NCAA history in the 10,000 meters (32:08.32) en route to beating the Olympic standard at the Stanford Invitational. The best mark in the NCAA this season, Smith's time shattered the Ivy League and Harvard records.
The national weekly award was the first of Smith's career.
Poll Position
Following a highly successful weekend at a trio of national meets, Harvard women's outdoor track and field leapt into the top-25 polls for the first time in program history, checking in at No. 12. The Crimson jumped 25 spots from their No. 37 ranking a week ago. The ranking is just the third all-time for the Harvard track and field program of any kind, as the women's indoor squad picked up No. 24 and No. 25 rankings in the preseason and week one polls, respectively, in 2014.

Splitting for a pair of meets April 8-9, Harvard Track and Field tallied a handful of top performances at the Hurricane Alumni Invitational, hosted by Miami, and the Sam Howell Invite, hosted by Princeton.
Junior Nikki Okwelogu led the charge in South Beach, posting victories in the discus and shot put. The Fresno, California native broke her own school record in the discus with a toss of 179-5 (54.69), which is 12 feet better than the second-place mark in the Crimson annals. The throw was also the second-best in Ivy history. Not done on the afternoon, Okwelogu also triumphed in the shot put with a throw of 56-0.5 (17.08).
Senior Autumne Franklin and junior Jade Miller finished in the top two spots in the 400 hurdles, with Franklin picking up the win in a personal best 56.19. The co-captain's mark was the second fastest in school history, while Miller crossed the stripe just behind in 56.74. The times are the fourth- and eighth-fastest nationally. The duo also took seventh and ninth in the 100H in 13.64 and 13.80 seconds, respectively, with Miller's time good for fourth-best in Harvard and eighth-best in Ivy history. Senior Madison Hansen placed 11th overall in the 100 hurdles in 14.08, which represents the sixth-fastest time by a Harvard hurdler.
