WORCESTER, Mass. – Senior captain Hannah Wellington and junior Kathleen Young each scored a pair of goals, and senior captain Ellie Cookson added a pair of assists to lead No. 14 Harvard field hockey (7-2) to a 7-0 win at Holy Cross (5-5) on Wednesday night.

Sophomores Bente van Vlijmen and Maddie Earle each added a goal and an assist, and freshman Mimi Tarrant scored as well as Harvard outshot Holy Cross 33-3 on the night. Goalkeeper Olivia Startup earned her fifth win in five starts, with Callie Rennyson (two saves) also playing in net for the Crimson.

Harvard scored seven goals in a game for the second time this season after going 14 seasons without reaching the seven goal mark.

The Crimson dominated the game from the start, peppering Holy Cross goalkeeper Marcia LaPlante (19 saves) with shots. Wellington broke the scoreless tie on a deflection off a penalty corner at 8:12, then added her second of the game on a tip in front at 21:01. Minutes later van Vlijmen scored her team-leading seventh goal of the year on a shot from the top of the circle to make it 3-0.

Young scored on a tip-in in front of a great pass from Tessel Huibregtsen at 33:09 to give the Crimson a four-goal lead at the half.

Two quick goals from Young (her seventh of the season) and Maddie Earle to start the second half put the game out of reach. Tarrant put in her own rebound at 64:04 to round out the scoring.
