Brand Tabbed Men's Fencing Co-Coach of the Year

PRINCETON, N.J. – Peter Brand, head coach of the Harvard men's and women's fencing teams, has been named the Ivy League Men's Co-Coach of the Year, as announced by the league Tuesday morning. Brand is in his 20th season with the Crimson and previously won the award for the first time in 2015.

Brand most recently led Harvard to a first-place victory at the Ivy League Championships last weekend, Feb. 10-11, where the Crimson claimed a share of the crown with Columbia and Penn. The win marks the 10th Ivy League title for the men in program history, and eighth under the reign of Brand. Brand coached four Harvard fencers to the All-Ivy first team at the 2018 tournament, bringing his total to 40 in his career with the Crimson.

Brand has coached the men to one of their best seasons yet, securing a No. 1 ranking in the College Fencing 360 poll for two weeks straight in the month of February, its highest placement since the 2007 season. The Crimson currently holds a 14-2 overall record, moving to 4-1 in Ivy play last weekend.

Harvard will compete in the annual Beanpot tournament today, Feb. 14 at MIT, where the Crimson will vie for its 11th straight first-place finish.
