Men's and Women's Fencers Prosper at Junior World Cups

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.- Mitchell Saron and Elizabeth Tartakovsky traveled to compete in Junior World Cup events over the weekend.

First-year saberist Mitchell Saron won his first Junior World Cup in Boston. Saron went 4-2 in pool play with a plus two touch differential. This gave him the 35th overall seed entering the elimination rounds.

Saron went on to win five straight to advance to the finals. In the championship the first-year defeated Michelle Gallo of Italy, 15-14, to win his first Junior World Cup.

Elizabeth Tartakovsky, who is taking a year off to train for the Olympics, traveled to Spain to compete in the women's saber world cup. Tartakovsky went 3-2 in pool play and tabbed the 50th overall seed going into elimination rounds.

The Crimson fencer would defeated opponents from Bulgaria, Germany, Italy and France to advance to the round of eight. Tartakovsky would fall to fellow USA team member Chloe Fox-Gitomer, 15-7, to finish the event eight overall.
