Women’s Swimming and Diving Continues Ivy Competition at Cornell with Dartmouth

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard University women's swimming and diving continues Ivy League competition at Cornell University with Dartmouth College on Saturday, Nov. 13 at 11:00 a.m. at Ithaca College's Kelsey Partridge Bird Natatorium, coming off a 2-0 overall and 1-0 Ivy weekend to open its 2021-22 season.

What to Know

  • In its second meet of its opening weekend, Harvard topped Columbia University, 179.5-115.5, in its Ivy League opener at Percy Uris Natatorium, completing a 2-0 weekend for the Crimson in its first dual meets of the 2021-22 season. The Crimson capped an undefeated weekend with a win over the Lions behind 12 event victories, nine second-place showings, and seven third-place finishes.
  • Against the Lions, Harvard swept the two three spots in the 100 backstroke and took first and second in six other events – the 400 IM, 200 freestyle, 1-meter diving, 100 freestyle, 200 backstroke, and 100 butterfly.
  • The Crimson began its 2021-22 season with a 170-129 victory over Big Ten member Rutgers University in its season opener in its first competition in over 600 days. Harvard totaled eight victories, 13 second-place showings, and 11 third-place finishes to top the host Scarlet Knights.
  • Against Rutgers, the Crimson swept the top three spots in five events – the 100 breast, 200 breast, 200 fly, 500 free, and 200 IM – and captured the top two spots in two other events – the 200 back and 1000 free.
  • First-year Aleksandra Denisenko finished the opening weekend with four individual victories in addition to a relay win. She won three individual events at Rutgers (100 breast, 200 breast, 200 IM) before an individual (100 breast) and relay victory (200 medley) at Columbia.
  • First-year Abby Carr closed her first weekend of collegiate competition with three individual wins and a relay victory. She won two individual events at Rutgers (200 fly, 400 fly) before an individual (200 fly) and relay victory (200 medley) at Columbia.
  • Senior Felicia Pasadyn tallied three individual victories in Harvard's opening weekend. She won once on Friday at Rutgers (200 back) and twice vs. the Lions (400 IM, 200 backstroke).
  • On the boards, senior Esther Lawrence took home first place in both 3-meter diving and 1-meter diving against Columbia.
  • Between the weekend's two meets, Harvard totaled 20 wins, 22 second-place showings, and 18 third-place finishes.
  • Harvard holds a 35-1 edge in the all-time series vs. Cornell.
  • The Crimson carries a 40-3 advantage in the all-time series against Dartmouth.

At the Helm

Stephanie Wriede Morawski '92 is in her 25th year as the The Costin Family Head Coach for Harvard Women's Swimming & Diving in the 2021-22 season. Under Morawski's direction, the Crimson have captured six Ivy League championships, including four (2014, 2016, 2018, 2019) since 2014. Morawski has earned Ivy League Coach of the Year honors in each of the last three seasons (2017-18, 2018-19, 2019-20).
