CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Harvard men's fencing team will kick off its 2021-22 campaign by playing host to the Beanpot, this Wednesday, Nov. 17, at the Malkin Athletic Center.
The Beanpot will feature Boston-area teams including Boston College, Brandeis and MIT in a round-robin event.
The Crimson will start the annual competition against Boston College at 4 p.m., followed by Brandeis at 5:30 p.m., and then finishing with MIT at 7 p.m.
Harvard comes into the season after not competing last year due to the pandemic. The Crimson was last in action at the 2020 NCAA Regionals, where four athletes finished in the top three before its season was cut short.
Harvard was able to put together a 20-3 record in the 2019-20 campaign and was the No. 1 team in the country in the season's final poll before the cancellation.
The Crimson have had great success in the Beanpot, having won 12 in a row.
Harvard boasts a 23-0 record against the Eagles all-time, dating back to the first competition in 1993.
The Crimson have bested Brandeis in 20 straight matches since 1999, with a 55-11 overall record since 1958.
Harvard and MIT have been facing off since 1903, with the Crimson owning a 102-18-1 advantage over the Engineers. Harvard has won the last 15 matches.
In addition to the Harvard bouts, Boston College, Brandeis and MIT will all face off against each other. MIT and BC will face off at 6 p.m. Boston College and Brandeis will clash at 7 p.m. And finally, MIT and Brandeis will compete at 8 p.m.
All matches will be streamed on ESPN+ starting at 4 p.m.
