CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - "Crimson Character" is a video series featuring Harvard head coaches answering questions about their philosophy and thought process as leaders of their respective programs. The seventh installment features the head coaches from women's basketball (
Kathy Delaney-Smith), women's field hockey (
Tjerk van Herwaarden) and women's heavyweight rowing (
Liz O'Leary) discussing the question, "Why Harvard?"
Prior to the current coaching panel, the series featured Ted Minnis (men's and women's water polo),
Daria Schneider (men's and women's fencing) and
Josh Shapiro (men's soccer), the group discussed
how they find and develop leaders,
what makes a Harvard team and
how they turn failure into a culture of winning.
In the inaugural three episodes of the series, meanwhile, we asked
Andrew Rueb '95 (men's tennis),
Katey Stone (women's ice hockey) and
Jay Weiss (wrestling) for their thoughts on
how they would describe a Harvard student-athlete,
what do Harvard coaches look for and
how they build a culture of excellence.
