CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Harvard men's fencing team earned a 16-11 win over New York University, the top-ranked Division III team, on Friday, Jan. 28, at the Malkin Athletic Center.
The match, which was originally scheduled for Saturday, was moved up to Friday night due to the incoming winter storm in the Greater Boston area.
The Crimson used a fantastic showing from an entirely first-year foil squad to earn the edge over the Violets, posting a perfect 9-0 record.
Andrew Chung recorded a +8-touch differential throughout his three wins to lead the way for the foil group.
James Liao competed in two bouts, winning each 5-1 for a +8-touch differential as well.
James Chen fenced in three bouts, posting a +6-touch differential, while
Justin Liu won his only showing 5-2.
The Crimson sabre squad earned a 6-3 edge in its bouts, with junior
Daniel Solomon leading the way and tallying a +5-touch differential across his three bouts. Juniors
Mitchell Saron and
Filip Dolegiewicz boasted identical +4-touch differentials to solidify the win for Harvard.

The Crimson will travel to Brown University for the Ivy League Championships from Feb. 12-13.
