CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Harvard fencing will begin their 2022-23 season at the United States Air Force Academy, Colorado for the Air Force Western Invitational. The event will take place from Saturday, Nov. 5 – Sunday, Nov. 6.
Harvard will be joined by nine other schools in the event, including Air Force, Columbia, Incarnate Word, New Jersey Institute of Technology, North Carolina, Northwestern, Ohio State, Stanford and UC San Diego.
What to Know
- Last year, Harvard recorded two individual NCAA national champions for the first time in program history behind Filip Dolegiewicz in men's sabre and Elizabeth Tartakovsky in women's sabre. The Crimson has now totaled 13 individual NCAA national champions in program history.
- Five fencers for the Crimson, Zoe Kim, Faith Park, Chloe Williams, Matthew Linsky and Ark Ma (all first-years) will be making their collegiate debuts this season.
- Harvard men's fencing captains are senior Kenji Bravo and junior Jonas Hansen while Harvard women's fencing is captained by senior Cynthia Liu and senior Elizabeth Tarakovsky.
- Assistant coach Eli Dershwitz won gold in the Division I men's sabre event at the North American Cup last month.
- Sophomore James Chen will be competing at the Junior World Cup this weekend in London in men's foil.
- First-year Faith Park will compete in the Senior World Cup in Tallin, Estonia next weekend.
- Harvard fencing is led by Head Coach Daria Schneider who returns for her fourth year.
