Men’s Fencing Heads to Ivy League Championships

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The No. 4 Harvard men's fencing team (10-3) will travel to Providence, R.I., for the Ivy League Championship Round Robins this weekend, Feb. 12-13.

The Crimson is the defending Ivy League champion after sweeping the round robins as the host school in the 2020 tournament just over two years ago.

Harvard will start the tournament on Saturday at 3:30 p.m., against 11th-ranked Yale. This will be the first meeting between the schools since the last Ivy League Championships. Harvard trails the all-time series against the Bulldogs, 65-44, dating back to the first meeting in 1902. The Crimson have dominated recently, winning 15 of the last 17 matchups since 2004.

In the second round, the Crimson will face off with No. 8 Penn at 4:45 p.m., also for the first time since the tournament in 2020. Harvard trails in the series that began in 1904, but have won the past three competitions and eight of the last 11.

In the third round and the final match on Saturday at 6 p.m., Harvard will go up against second-ranked Columbia. The Crimson beat the Lions, 16-11, back on Jan. 22, at the St. John's Invitational. Harvard trails the all-time series, but has tallied a 14-7 record against Columbia since 2010.

On Sunday, the final match for the Crimson will be at 3:30 p.m., against No. 7 Princeton. Again, Harvard trails the all-time series, but the recent competitions have been in favor of the Crimson. Since 2013, Harvard has won eight of 11 over the Tigers, including in the Ivy League Championships in 2020.
