CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Harvard men's fencing program will send six athletes to the 2022 National Collegiate Men's Fencing Championships from March 24-27, in Notre Dame, Ind., the committee announced today.
The Crimson will send
Jonas Hansen and
Mihir Kumashi of the epee squad,
Kenji Bravo and
James Chen of the foil team, as well as
Mitchell Saron and
Filip Dolegiewicz of the sabre squad.
This is Harvard's first trip back to the NCAA Championships since 2019, because of the cancellation in 2020 and the Crimson not competing for a full season in 2021.
Men's Epee
Jonas Hansen
- NCAA Northeast Regional Men's Epee Bronze Medalist.
- Ranked No. 3 in the Northeast after regular season.
- Earned the bronze medal thanks to a 16-7 performance including a +34-touch differential.
- Hansen finished the regular season 39-19 and will enter the championships holding a 55-26 mark.
Mihir Kumashi
- NCAA Northeast Regional - 13th place.
- Ranked No. 7 in the Northeast following the regular season.
- Earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Championships.
- Kumashi will enter the championships holding a 34-26 record throughout the year.
Men's Foil
Kenji Bravo
- NCAA Northeast Regional Men's Foil Champion.
- Ranked No. 5 in the Northeast after regular season.
- Secured the gold medal with a 19-4 performance, including a +29-touch differential.
- Bravo will come into the championships with a 53-22 record on the year.
- Bravo earned a bid to the NCAA Championships in 2020 before the contest was canceled due to the pandemic.
James Chen
- NCAA Northeast Regional Men's Foil Silver Medalist.
- Ranked No. 7 in the Northeast following the regular season.
- Finished the day at the regionals with a 17-6 record and a +49-touch differential to grab the silver medal.
- Chen will enter the championships with a 35-18 record throughout the campaign.
Men's Sabre
Filip Dolegiewicz
- NCAA Northeast Regional Men's Sabre Bronze Medalist.
- Ranked No. 4 in the Northeast following the regular season.
- Earned the bronze medal thanks to a 16-7 record and a +29-touch differential.
- Dolegiewicz will enter the tournament with a 49-19 record on the year.
- Dolegiewicz earned a bid to the NCAA Championships in 2020 before the contest was canceled due to the pandemic.
Mitchell Saron
- NCAA Northeast Regional - 5th place.
- Ranked No. 1 in the Northeast after the regular season.
- Posted a 16-7 record along with a +21-touch differential to land in the fifth-place spot.
- Saron will come into the championships sporting a 64-15 record across his bouts this year.
- Saron earned a bid to the NCAA Championships in 2020 before the contest was canceled due to the pandemic.
