CHARLESTON, S.C. – Harvard sailing began its spring season with a strong effort at the Bavier Team Race this weekend (March 5-6), finishing second out of 10 schools at the cross-regional regatta hosted by the College of Charleston.
After going 6-3 on day one, the Crimson rose the leaderboard with an 8-1 mark on the second day, flipping results against both Charleston and UC Santa Barbara. The team's 14-4 combined record trailed only Stanford, who went 16-2 to grab the victory.

Lachlain McGranahan and
Dylan Ascencios served as Harvard's three skippers, while
Tyler Masuyama,
Cassia Lee and
Alexandra Dorofeev comprised the crew.
In other opening weekend action, Harvard took fourth at its home event, the women's only team race, and fifth at the Sharpe Trophy Team Race.
On a chilly Charles river,
Cordelia Burn,
Marbella Marlo and
Sarah Burn teamed with
Cindy Tian,
Juliana Ruggieri and
Corinne Lee to go 8-7 across three rounds. The Crimson went 2-1 in three matchups with Yale, who would go on to win the regatta.
Brown served as the host for the Sharpe Trophy Team Race, an event which saw the duos of
Henry Burnes and
Chris Wang,
Eric Hansen and
Ariel Wang and
Jonas Nelle and
Pomaika'i Ogata lead Harvard to a 7-7 record. The Crimson earned two wins apiece against Tufts, MIT and Northeastern, while splitting with the host Bears.

The season continues to ramp up next weekend (March 12-13) as Harvard is slated to compete in four regattas. The team will race at the Ice Breaker Fleet Race, St. Mary's College Team Race, Wood Trophy Team Race and Navy Women's Team Race.
