Harvard Men's Fencing Travels to Ithaca, New York for Ivy League Championships

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Top-ranked Harvard men's fencing heads to Ithaca, New York to compete at the Ivy League Fencing Round-Robins. The competition is being held at Cornell University and is scheduled to run from Saturday, Feb. 11 – Sunday, Feb. 12. 
 
The Crimson will compete in two matches on Saturday and two matches on Sunday.
 
Harvard has won the Ivy League 11 times in team history with the last time coming in 2020. In 2022, the Crimson finished second in the Ivy League.
 
Harvard will open the conference event on Saturday at 10 a.m. against Penn. The Crimson have won its last four matchups against the Quakers. 
 
Harvard will then face off against Yale at 1:15 p.m., a program it has defeated 16 of the last 18 times they have shared the strip. 
 
To begin day two of the competition, the Crimson will put its five-match winning streak on the line against Princeton starting at 9 a.m. 
 
Then to conclude the tournament, Harvard will face Columbia at 3:15 p.m. The Crimson defeated Columbia, 17-10, earlier this season at the St. John's Invitational.
 

What to Know

  • Harvard was recently ranked No. 1 in the country in the USFCA Men's Fencing Mid-Season Coaches Poll. Columbia and Princeton, meanwhile, found themselves tied for second in the poll. 
  • Senior Mitchell Saron (sabre) has been crowned the Ivy individual sabre champion the last two years the event was held (2020, 2022).
  • With 19 wins so far this season, Harvard only needs only two victories this weekend to surpass the team record for most wins in a season, which currently stands at 20 in 2019-20.
  • The Crimson's foil squad is a spectacular 20-1 on the season.
  • Kenji Bravo (foil) is 42-4 on the season, leading the team in victories.
