CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Harvard track and field teams will send 39 athletes to the NCAA East Regional Preliminary meet in Jacksonville, Florida to compete for a spot in the NCAA Championship meet from Wednesday, May 24 to Saturday, May 27. Athletes qualified for the meet by ranking in the top 48 in their respective individual events in the east region or the top 24 in a relay event.
Sophomore
Izzy Goudros will head straight to the NCAA Championship meet in Austin, Texas from June 7-10 in the heptathlon, as the multi events are not contested at the regional round. Goudros currently ranks 14th in the nation in the heptathlon with a score of 5769, a Harvard and Ivy League record she set earlier this year at the UConn Northeast Challenge.
In order for athletes to join Goudros and qualify out of the regional meet and advance to the NCAA Championship meet, they will have to finish in the top 12 in their individual event.
The regional meet will begin on Wednesday with NCAA first round competition in the field events and the shorter running events and national semifinals in the 10,000m run. Action will begin at 10 a.m. with the men's hammer throw on and conclude after the finish of the men's 10,000m run, set to go off at 9:10 p.m. Thursday will follow the same schedule as Wednesday but for the women's events. Friday will begin at 1 p.m. with the men's discus and end after the 4x400m relays at 8:45 p.m. Saturday will follow the same schedule as Friday but for the women's events.
