CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – After strong performances at the Paul Short Run in the beginning of the month, Harvard cross country will compete at two meets this weekend. The action starts on Friday, Oct. 18, as the Crimson head to the Big Apple for the ECAC/IC4A Championships. Harvard's regular season concludes with a bang, as the Crimson travel west for Pre-Nationals in Madison, Wisconsin.
WHAT TO KNOW:
- Harvard returns to action after a two-week layoff, competing last at the Paul Short Run on Saturday, Oct. 5.
- A first-place finish from the women's team highlighted the day at the Paul Short Run, as six Crimson placed in the top-50 to propel Harvard to the top spot.
- The men's team took second place in the 8k race, as five Crimson orchestrated top-25 performances.
- Senior Ella Gilson was the Crimson's top finisher on the women's side, as the Cleveland, Ohio native crossed the finish line in 19th place (20:34.8). Senior Ben Rosa paced the men's team with a 15th place showing in the 8k race (23:52.6).
- In the latest United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Poll, the men earned the No. 20 spot, one of two Ivy League programs in the top-25 (Princeton – No. 17). The women also received votes in the national poll.
- In the USTFCCCA's Northeast Regional Rankings, the men rank No. 2, while the women hold the No. 4 spot. The top-two teams from each region automatically qualify for the 2024 NCAA Cross Country Championships.
- The men will run at Pre-Nationals for the 10th time in school history, the first appearance for the Crimson at the marquee regular season meet since 2011. The women will run at Pre-Nationals for the ninth time, the first time since 2010.
- In 2006, the women finished in sixth at Pre-Nationals, the best team result in program history. The men are looking to win Pre-Nationals for the second time in school history, finishing in first in 2006.
- The women will make their 20th all-time appearance at the ECAC/IC4A Championships this weekend, finishing in 11th last season.
- Friday's meet will be the men's 73rd showing at the ECAC/IC4A Championships. The Crimson own three ECAC/IC4A Championships (1912, 1931, 1976).
