Track & Field Takes Center Stage at Penn Relays

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard track & field closes out the regular season this weekend, traveling to the Keystone State for the Penn Relays. Competition at the Penn Relays begins on Thursday, Apr. 25 and ends on Saturday, Apr. 27. FloTrack will air all three days of competition at Franklin Field.

WHAT TO KNOW:

  • The Crimson rewrote the record books last weekend, breaking school and Ivy League records at the Wake Forest Invitational and the Tiger Track Classic.
  • Making her outdoor season debut, senior Maia Ramsden electrified the crowd in Winston-Salem, breaking her own Ivy League record in the women's 1,500m at the Wake Forest Invitational. The defending NCAA Women's 1,500m National Champion, Ramsden crossed the finish line at 4:07.30, putting her atop the national performance list this season.
  • Further south in Auburn, Ala., the men's 4x100m relay team of Timi Esan, Jonas Clarke, Collin Fullen, and Lance Ward broke the program record in the event at the Tiger Track Classic. The four student-athletes combined for a time of 39.87, becoming the first relay team in school history to go sub-40 seconds. The previous record was set at the Houston Invite (40.19).
  • Along with the two record-breaking showings, junior Kenneth Ikeji won the men's hammer throw at the Tiger Track Classic, posting his best throw of the season of 74.47m (244'4"). The defending NCAA Men's Hammer Throw National Champion, Ikeji ranks fourth in the nation in the men's hammer throw this season.
  • Two Crimson rank in the top-10 on the women's 800m national performance list. Junior Victoria Bossong holds fourth place, as her time of 2:00.92 at the Florida Relays has in a strong position heading into the postseason.
  • A qualifier for the women's 800m at the 2024 NCAA Indoor Championships, first-year Sophia Gorriaran posted a 2:01.60 at the Wake Forest Invitational, good enough for the eighth-fastest time in the nation.
  • Junior Izzy Goudros is ninth on the national performance list in the heptathlon, as she tallied 5765 points at the Duke Invitational.
