Alofe, Gorriaran Qualify for World U20 Championships

EUGENE, Ore. – At the USATF U20 Championships, a pair of Crimson orchestrated stellar performances, as first-years Sophia Gorriaran and Tito Alofe qualified for the World Athletics U20 Championships.

A native of Providence, R.I., Gorriaran ran the 800m at Hayward Field for the third time in the span of the week, as she took first place at the USATF U20 Championships with a time of 2:01.90. Gorriaran takes the USATF U20 Championship in the 800m after placing in the top-10 at the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Championships. She is also a two-time USTFCCCA All-American in the event.

Alofe secured his spot at the World Athletics U20 Championships in style, as the Peachtree City, Georgia native matched the program record in the outdoor high jump with a jump of 2.22m (7'3.25") at the USATF U20 Championships. Alofe is also a two-time USTFCCCA All-American honoree in the men's high jump, as he garnered All-America First Team recognition in the event with a fourth place finish at the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Championships.

The 2024 World Athletics U20 Championship take place between Tuesday, Aug. 27 and Saturday, Aug. 31 in Lima, Peru.
