Men's Hockey Travels to Vermont This Weekend

CAMBRIDGE, Mass - Men's hockey heads north for a Saturday night matchup at Vermont, the lone game on the schedule for the Crimson this weekend.

PUCK DROP

  • Puck drop is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. from the Gutterson Fieldhouse.
  • It will be the lone game the Crimson will play this weekend.

LAST TIME OUT

  • The Crimson swept the North Country trip for the first time since 2022-23 after defeating Clarkson and St. Lawrence last weekend.
  • A clutch goal from Casey Severo in the final minute of regulation helped give Harvard its first win at Cheel Arena since 2023.
  • Five of the last six matchups between Harvard and Clarkson have been decided by one goal including two games with a goal in the final minute of regulation and another two in overtime.
  • Heikki Ruohonen netted his first career goal to tie the game at 1-1 in the third period against Clarkson.
  • Salvatore Guzzo scored his second goal of the season against St. Lawrence on Saturday as the junior has netted two goals in three games this season – tying a career high.

SERIES HISTORY

  • Harvard leads the all-time series 36-24-3.
  • This is just the fourth meeting since 2006.
  • Harvard won the last matchup back in 2017 by a score of 4-1.

PERFECT PK

  • The Crimson penalty killing unit has yet to allow a goal through six games this season.
  • Last weekend against the Saints, the Crimson went 5 for 5 on the PK and is now 17 for 17 on the year.
  • No other team in the nation is 100% on the PK.

THE 729

  • The line of Philip Tresca, Casey Severo, and Mick Thompson has been extremely efficient since becoming a line late last season.
  • Becoming a trio in the 25th game of the season last year, the first line has produced 34 points across the final 10 games of the season.
  • To open the season, the line has 21 points combined in six games, making that 48 points over their last 16 games.
  • Including the exhibition matchup against Northeastern, they have 62 points in their last 17 games.

CLUTCH CASEY

  • In 2023-24, seven of Severo's eight goals had either narrowed the deficit to one, tied the game, or given the Crimson the lead.
  • In 2024-25, 10 of his 16 goals either tied the game or gave the Crimson the lead while two others pushed the Crimson lead to two.
  • Over the past three seasons, 17 of his 24 goals have either narrowed the deficit to one, tied the game, or given the Crimson the lead.

MICKY THREES

  • Mick Thompson recorded the fifth and six three-point games of his career last week on home ice.
  • The Ontario native has all six three-point games within his last 13 games.
  • Since 2002-03, Mick Thompson ranks 8th among Crimson skaters who have recorded multiple three-point games through just 39 career games.
  • Those in front of him are Adam Fox (97 career games), Casey Dornbach (131 career games), Sean Malone (115 career games), current Crimson forward Joe Miller, Sean Farrell (58 career games), Nick Abruzzese (59 career games), Tyler Moy (131 career games).

FIRST YEAR FRENZY

  • First-year defenseman Drake Murray added two assists for his first career points. Murray is the first rookie blueliner with a two-point night since Ryan Healey in 2022.
  • Four rookies recorded points at the home opener with Aidan Lane and Murray earning their first career points.

SHUT DOWN CHEVY

  • Ben Charette has been lights out to start the season for the Crimson.
  • Charette had stopped 70 of 73 shots to start the season.
  • Allowing one goal on 36 shots, the ECAC Preseason All-League netminder was stellar for the Crimson against UConn.
  • Tying a career high in saves, Charette helped keep the Crimson in the game in the early goings.
  • Charette made 36 saves in a loss to Clarkson last December.
  • Including the seven shootout stops, Charette unofficially made 43 saves on 47 shots.

CHASING HISTORY

  • Ted Donato sits just three wins away from becoming the program's all-time win leader, passing his former coach Bill Cleary.
  • Donato passed Ralph "Cooney" Weiland for second all-time in program history after the opening-round playoff win against RPI last season.
  • Donato is currently 49th all-time in NCAA history in career victories, with only ten active coaches having more wins than the long-time leader of the Crimson.

MICK MEANS BUSINESS

  • The reigning Ivy League Rookie of the Year, Mick Thompson returns for the Crimson this season looking to improve on what was already an incredible rookie campaign.
  • A native of Mississauga, Ontario, Thompson was named National Rookie of the Month for February last season while also landing on the ECAC All-Rookie Team and All-Ivy Second Team.
  • One of the top players in the region, Thompson finished the regular season with 14 goals, 18 assists, and 32 points.
  • His 32 points led all Crimson players, while his 18 assists were tied for the team lead and his 14 goals finished second.
  • In February alone, Thompson recorded 12 points in eight games, with 10 of his 12 points coming against conference foes.
  • Thompson, just the seventh rookie since 2002-03 to have 25-plus points in a single season and the first Crimson rookie to have more than 10 points in February, helped Harvard reach the second round of the ECAC Hockey Playoffs.

LEADERSHIP GROUP

  • Mason Langenbrunner and Joe Miller were named the 140th and 141st captains in program history at the conclusion of last season.
  • Langenbrunner had a career season on the blue line, netting six goals and adding four assists in 33 games.
  • A Boston Bruins draft pick, he scored twice at TD Garden against Northeastern in the Beanpot and was a two-time ECAC Defenseman of the Week.
  • Having played 99 career games to start the season, Langenbrunner is set to become the 43rd defenseman in the last 45 seasons to reach 100+ career games.
  • Miller has been an offensive force for the Crimson, tallying 31 goals and 47 assists for a total of 77 points over 93 career games, and is just the 10th Crimson forward in the last decade to surpass 75 career points.
  • Named Ivy League Rookie of the Year in 2022-23, Miller earned All-Ivy First Team and ECAC Third Team honors as a sophomore, finishing with 13 goals and 14 assists in 32 games. He was selected in the sixth round of the NHL Draft by the Toronto Maple Leafs.
